. ..
On the July the forth weekend of this year, my father came up from Jacksonville to do some bass fishing with me. On Friday afternoon, I caught a 8 pound bass and set the "Cochran" lake record. I was excited as was my father but, as soon as we got it in the boat, I started feeling kind of guilty or something. My father had not been an avid fisherman until as of late but, he has been fishing for most of his life and has never caught a bass over 5 pounds. I was wondering why I caught the bass and not him. Why couldn't he catch a "big" one?
That night as I was on my knees before bed, I asked God that question. I, of course, thanked Him for allowing me to catch a nice bass but, asked Him to please bless my dad and let him catch one. After I got finished praying, I remembered that my dad had been saved on this lake. He had accepted God after reading a little bible that my boss at work had given to me to pass on to him.
Well, the next morning, we headed back out fishing. It was about 9 o'clock in the morning and we had not caught much. Then my dad set the hook. By the look of the bend in the rod, it appeared to be a nice fish. Then it took off. I saw it come up and said "it's a good one." My dad did not see it as it came up behind the boat and I started telling him to keep this rod tip up, to get his hand off the line and let the drag do its job. I sounded like him 30 years ago when I caught my first 8 pound bass. Anyway, we finally got it in the boat and it was over 10 pounds. My dad was kind of shaky and very excited but, not as excited as me. I thought back to the night before and then immediately thanked God for blessing him with this fish.
What a miracle!!!
You see, three years ago, this could not have happened. I was a lost soul, homeless, jobless and pretty much on the brink of death. I only cared about me and my addiction. Nothing else. I knew deep inside that I needed to change and finally realized that in order to do that, I had to surrender to God and let Him take over. Ever since I first got on my knees that night some 3 years ago, God has been in charge and small miracles like this have been happening all around me.
Needless to say but, I no longer hold the "Cochran" lake record and couldn't be happier about it
Thank you,
Charles Cochran
