2009 Canada Fishing Trip - Memories
Mark 1:17 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."
Arthur, Bill Howard, Bill Mathis, Sr., Bill Mathis, Jr., Russell and I were having a great week in Canada fishing. We all were catching plenty of fish all week. The last day of the week came and the float plane was picking us up at 1:00 pm. That morning was the coldest day of the week and to top it off it was raining. This was the only day of the week that it rained. Daddy, Bill Howard, Bill Mathis, Jr. and I were there at the lake with the two guides. We fished long enough to catch lunch. Both Bills had a fire going when Dad and I came up the shore for lunch. The fire was nice, but it was wet, windy, and cold. The guides still cooked lunch. Bill said he wanted to go fishing so he went by himself. We all said what a fool he was, but he caught some big pike. The weather was too bad for the rest of us. We all went to the dock where the float plane was supposed to be at 1:00 pm , but there was no plane and it was starting to get late. Our flight was leaving at 6:30 pm and we were getting worried. We had a hard time building a fire. We poured lots of gas out of the outboard tank just to light the fire. It was cold and wet. We sat around the fire joking and talking for a long time. Just before 5:00 pm we thought the plane was not coming that we were here for the night and that something had happened. We had all kinds of thoughts going through our minds.....Did the plane crash, is the plane picking Bill, Sr. and Russell up at the other lake, did Bill, Sr. have a heart attack? We didn't know and everyone was saying the same things. A few minutes later we went fishing for supper. We thought we missed the plane and I was praying for Bill, Sr. and Russell that nothing had happened to that plane. A few minutes went by and I asked the guide if he had the bible I had given him and he said he did. I was glad because we were going to need it. We were talking around the fire about kits to bring next time in our bags with matches, food, water, etc. But we went fishing for supper while dad kept the fire going. While we were fishing about 5 minutes later here comes the plane and it buzzes the lake and lands. The pilot gets out and says the other plane had broken down when it landed. We asked if Bill, Sr. and Russell were ok and he said that they were ok. What a blessing from God. We were praying hard and we will never forget the 2009 fishing trip's last day adventure. Memories were made for a lifetime out of this day. We all were praying for help and God helped us. We are so blessed and after that day we will always remember that fishing trip 2009.
Fishing Tip of the Week: "Bring ziploc bags with matches, food, and extra water on your fishing trips."
