"Train up a child in the way he shall go and, when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
With another deer season behind us we look back and ask if it was a successful one. What makes a successful season? Is it the number of deer killed, or the big bucks that were taken. Sure, these things can determine the success of a season but it goes much deeper than this. There are several of my friends and myself that make up an informal hunting club. It is made up of Christian men who enjoy hunting and have a desire to honor God in their lives. Many bring their sons and daughters to hunt. From opening morning when we all gathered in a circle and prayed together, asking God to bless us, not only as we hunt, but also in our daily walk, to the cook out that we will have in a few days, it has been a joy to be a part of this group. It is so important that we as men set an example for our children. We not only hunt together but we are great friends helping one another anytime a need arises. One of the men lost his mother this year and many of our group were there to support him. Seeing this kind of friendship sets an example for the young boys and teenagers that are part of the club. We have seen children kill their first deer and learn the responsibility that is part of the privilege of hunting. So I can look back on this past deer season and say yes, it has been a very successful season, and having a freezer full of venison just adds to it. Take the opportunity to take a child hunting or fishing and make sure they see that Christ is a part of your life.
God Bless, Mike Price
Tip: Taking cushions and cloth blinds off of your deer stand at the end of the season will make them last longer and save the expense of replacing them next season.
