Hermanns Contracting Limited
Press Release           September 2010
What do hybrid vehicles and floating islands have in common?  Not much except that both demonstrate Hermanns' continued ride on the Green Wave and constant desire to investigate and experiment with new technologies.

Last month Hermanns Contracting took delivery of three Olympic series pick up trucks purchased from General Motors and Chevrolet. Although they won't help anyone ski, skate or snowboard any faster they are a welcome addition to the Hermanns fleet.  These trucks were originally supplied to the 2010 Winter Olympics in British Columbia where they were used before the games even began in the supply of materials for the construction of the many venues that were built. Once the athletes arrived these vehicles were used to shuttle athletes, officials and VIPs to and from competitions and related events.
Differentiating the "Olympic" vehicles from the standard offerings are the commemorative Vancouver 2010 medallions adorned with the Inukshuk symbol and Olympic rings on each model.  An added bonus is that the trucks that Hermanns purchased are also hybrid models.
These trucks may possibly be the best Olympic souvenir of all!

Hermanns Contracting Limited participates in Floating Island Demonstration.
Although floating islands have already made their debut in Europe and parts of the United States, they are still relatively uncommon in Canada.  C& M Aquatics Ltd. in co-operation with the Credit Valley Conservation Authority and the City of Brampton recently collaborated to create a Floating Island Demonstration Pond in the City of Brampton.  Hermanns Contracting  assisted in the seeding of these panels with a diverse wet meadow mix and is excited to be part of this new technology. The purpose of artificial floating wetlands is to mimic nature and thus provide similar water quality improvements and increase habitat diversity.  Floating Islands provide a highly efficient, natural way to improve water quality and buffer habitats against surges in nutrients and pollution.
We will continue to be involved in this and other similar projects that have a positive environmental impact on land and water.
Future newsletters will follow the life of these islands and this new technology.
