6. Abolishment of the racist Migra (Border Patrol & ICE) and the immediate demilitarization of the Mexico/U.S. border
7. End to the importation and promotion of drugs in our communities and barrios
8. An end to U.S. intervention in Mexico, Latin America and all over the globe
9. An immediate halt to Free Trade Agreements (NAFTA, CAFTA, FTAA etc.) and the support for the Bolivarian Alternative of the Américas (ALBA)
10. A Clean and Healthy Environment

Students and Community members reject the Border Czar-Alan Bersin's visit to the University of California, San Diego

A protest to be held in front of the Institute of the Americas on campus at 6pm
San Diego, CA- With just several days away from the 15th year anniversary of the implementation of Operation Gatekeeper, university students will denounce the Border Czar-Alan Bersin's visit to UCSD's Institute of the Americas, where he will hold a dialogue on September 10, 2009.

"Alan Bersin who was named the Border Czar under the Obama administration does not represent the promise of change, but more of the same failed and deadly border policies" stated Karen Barragán a student at the University of California San Diego.

Alan Bersin was the architect of Operation Gatekeeper, which was implemented by the Clinton administration on October 1, 1994.  Operation Gatekeeper has become a nightmare for the migrant community, because it has forced the flow of migration further east, away from the urban areas, into the mountains and deserts, which has resulted in thousands of deaths and human rights violations of migrants attempting to cross the border into the United States.

"The rise of violence, the violations to human and constitutional rights, and the more than 5,000 deaths at the border are all issues that Mister Bersin fails to acknowledge and address in his discourses. But, we will never forget what he represents, a legacy of death and impunity" added Karen.

In the recent months the increase of financial resources to the border region by the Obama administration has concerned human rights activists and border community members. Historically the concentration of resources to the border signifies more deaths, violence, and violations of civil and human rights.

"As the implementer of policies that has contributed to a decline in the quality of life for migrants and our communities, and in light of the more than 5, 000 deaths of our brothers and sisters as a direct result of these policies, we declare Mr. Bersin as persona non-grata and demand an end to the impunity and demand justice! End Operation Gatekeeper!" concluded Karen

Estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad rechazan presencia del Zar fronterizo, Alan Bersin en la Universidad de California San Diego.
Sostendrán protesta frente al instituto de las Americas del campus universitario, a las 6 de la tarde.

San Diego, CA - A tan solo días de que se celebre el 15 aniversario de la implementación del Operativo Guardián estudiantes universitarios denuncian la visita del Zar de la Frontera Alan Bersin, quien sostendrá una plática en el Instituto de las Americas de UCSD la tarde del 10 de septiembre. Bersin quien fuera el arquitecto del mortífero Operativo Guardián bajo el gobierno de Clinton y hoy funge como Zar Fronterizo dentro del actual gobierno.

 "Alan Bersin quien fue nombrado como el Zar de la Frontera por la administración de Obama en realidad no representa el cambio prometido, sino más de las mismas fallidas y mortales políticas fronterizas" declaró  Karen Barragán estudiante de la Universidad de California San Diego.

El Operativo Guardián que fue implementado por la administración de Bill Clinton en octubre de 1994. Dicho operativo, diseñado por el propio Alan Bersin ha generado una verdadera pesadilla para las comunidades migrantes, ya que desvió los flujos migratorios de las zonas urbanas hacia los desiertos y montañas de la región donde miles de migrantes han perdido la vida en su intento por ingresar a los Estados Unidos. Y sentó las bases para la militarización de la frontera ocasionando una grave situación en materia de derechos humanos para nuestra región.

 "Las mas de 5000 muertos en la frontera, la creciente violencia y los abusos a los derechos constitucionales y humanos son temas totalmente ignorados por el discurso del Señor Alan Bersin, no olvidamos el legado de impunidad y muerte que él representa" agrega Karen.

En recientes meses la concentración de recursos por decisión de la nueva administración de Obama ha preocupado profundamente a trabajadores de derechos humanos y miembros de comunidades fronterizas. Esta creciente concentración de recursos históricamente ha significado más muertes, más violencia y más abusos a los derechos civiles y humanos de comunidades fronterizas. "Ante la presencia de quien representa el iniciador de las políticas que han ocasionado el deterioro de nuestra calidad de vida y la muerte de por lo menos 5 mil de nuestros hermanos y hermanas migrantes, decimos no a la impunidad y exigimos justicia, el Operativo Guardián tiene que suspenderse" concluye Karen.
