Sunday morning, one of my friends passed away from a massive heart attack. He was only 52 years of age. He left behind a wife of 31 years and two college age children.
In honor of Greg Murphy, I am going to host a series of Lunch-n-Learns entitled "Because I Love You," with the first two on October 27th & 28th, from 11:30 am - 1 pm.
Greg was very good about providing for his family but unfortunately was not so good at letting his family know about all the family financial affairs.
This Lunch-n-Learn will focus on organizing all your pertinent financial information in a professionally bound binder. After the Lunch-n-Learn you will have the ability to put all your important information in one place. And more importantly, be able to communicate this information to your spouse in case of your untimely death.
This family financial organizer and estate plan will accomplish the following:
*checklist of what to do when the spouse dies. 30 things you need to do (example: where to get a death certificate and how many).
*account numbers and location of all bank accounts, retirement plans, insurance policies.
*passwords on all accounts.
*Location of all important papers: wills, estate plan, car titles, social security cards, marriage certificate, birth certificates, etc.
*List and contact information of all the important advisors; accountant, attorney, life insurance agent, etc.
*House information.
*Bill information.
*Funeral instructions.
*Other personal information.
Our firm has prepared these family finance and estate organizers for several of our clients. Without exception, each client has said this is the best organizing thing they have ever done.
Preparing one of these family financial plans is the loving thing to do for your spouse.
