New Work: From Dust
From Dust by Eric Boudet
From Dust, the newest work by choreographer Samar Haddad King, created in collaboration with Sarreyet Ramallah Contemporary Dance Troupe, first premiered on April 28, 2012 at Al Kasaba Theater as part of the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival, and will continue to tour throughout Palestine in the summer of 2012.

Salma Attaya by Eric BoudetFrom Dust by Eric Boudet
From Dust tells the story of the bond between a family and their land; and the lengths they will go to return home. Through the journey to return her grandfathers' ashes to his birthplace, Layla comes to understand a lifetime of stories of love and yearning; and confronts her own displacement as a Palestinian living abroad. Exploring time, memory, identity and the quest for home, From Dust is a visually stunning ensemble work, set to an original soundscore by Palestinian composer boikutt.

Fleet Moves
Fleet Moves
This spring, founding YSDT company member Kathryn Baer Schetlick prepares to launch a new type of dance festival with co-director Zena Bibler, dedicated to the exploration and celebration of all types of movement in Wellfleet, MA. To take place between July 5-8, 2012, Fleet Moves will feature the work of emerging and seasoned choreographers- including several YSDT company members- and will blend traditional elements of dance with other physical practices  already occurring in Wellfleet (such as surfing and skating). The festival will kick off with a visual art exhibition, and continue with all-day programming including daily dance classes, indoor and outdoor performances, film screenings and a closing night dance party.

Interested in getting involved? The Fleet Moves team is still seeking donations to help cover the costs of transportation, room and board, publicity etc. and have just one week left to meet (or exceed!) their fundraising goal on Kickstarter. Please check them out and chip in if you feel so moved!
