Artistic Director Samar Haddad King wins Hubbard Street 2 Choreographic Competition
Hubbard Street 2, the second company of the world famous Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, performs a repertoire of works by some of the nation's most promising young choreographers. Each year HS2 hosts a National Choreographic Competition in order to select three winners from hundreds of applicants to create an original work on the company. This year Samar Haddad King, choreographer and Artistic Director of Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre has been selected for this prestigious residency alongside Dominic Walsh (Dallas, TX) and Edgar Zendejas (Montreal, Canada). King will travel to Chicago for two weeks later this fall to create an all new work on Hubbard Street 2 which will tour nationally throughout their upcoming season. YSDT awarded year-long space residency at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center, Queens, NY
 YSDT will present it's third season at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center in Long Island City, Queens in 2011 after a year-long space residency for the creation of a new work. LPAC managing director Steven Hitt was recently featured on NY1 to discuss the unique merits of LPAC, and how an arts organization can survive in the current economic climate. The recent addition of the Lab rehearsal and performance space, committed to the creation and presentation of original performance works, will help to facilitate their upcoming collaboration.

Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre awarded NYFA BUILD Grant
Building Up Infrastructure Levels in Dance (BUILD) is a grant program developed by the New York Foundation for the Arts that aims to assist the development of the organizational environment so that time and resources are available to create, conceive and advance dance companies' artistic missions. BUILD awards operating grants to small to mid-sized dance companies based in New York City who are looking to enhance their management capacity and organizational infrastructure with funds from $10,000-$20,000. Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre is especially honored to be one of just a handful of selected companies to receive grants in this year's challenging fiscal environment.
