Greetings,
With the changing of the clocks this past weekend, we here at YSDT are springing full speed ahead into an exciting new season in New York City, featuring an all-new evening-length work with original sound score, text and movement. We hope you will join us as our latest production, The Store, unfolds. Whoever said April showers bring May flowers, anyway? This spring we are blooming early.
Enjoy!

| The Store, world premiere April 1-5

Photo: Isabel Asha Penzlien Through original text, video and movement, The Store
provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of six individuals from
different generations, neighborhoods, professions, and ethnic
backgrounds and explores how a diverse group of near-strangers is
affected by one unforseen and shocking event. In this new dance/theatre
piece, King's athletic, off-balance and highly emotive choreography
conveys what lies at the heart of human relationships. Both touching
and comical, The Store
overlaps a series of solos, duets, trios and larger group sections,
both danced and on film, which are as often tangential,
stream-of-consciousness and free association as they are straight
narrative. Sound design by Mike Berberich, costumes by L.E.S designer Daphne Corell, lighting by Yuriy Nayer.Dancers: Autumn Burnette, Chris DelPorto, Sara Genoves-Sylvan, Josiah Guitian, Sabrina Jaafar, Shayla-Vie Jenkins, Kristin Osler and Katie Schetlick. YSDT in Columbus, Ohio
|
|
For a second consecutive year, YSDT was invited to present work at the CM2 choreography showcase in Columbus, Ohio. The
performances, March 6th-8th at the Fisher Theater, were
well received by an enthusiastic and diverse audience. Working with two
guest artists, James Graham and Maggie Page, we performed Frozen
Belief, a quartet re-worked for our fall 2008 season at the Laguardia
Performing Arts Center in Queens, NY.
It was a pleasure to work with new faces, as each artist approaches the
choreography from a unique perspective, and satisfying to see the work mature and adapt in this new context. The work is truly a living, constantly evolving process. We appreciate the generosity extended to YSDT by CM2 and look
forward to fostering this relationship in the years to come.
