Outdoor Living: The Little Things Mean a Lot
Summer is prime time for outdoor living on our patios, porches, and decks. Whether you use your outdoor space for entertaining, eating meals, or just relaxing in the sun, here are some ideas to make your outdoor spaces more like real rooms of their own.
Fountains and Water Features - Nothing is more soothing to most people than the sound of softly flowing water. For this reason, a tabletop or free-standing fountain may make a great, relaxing addition to your outdoor space. What a great way to drown out nearby traffic noise!
Shade - Consider adding shade to your outdoor space. Build a pergola, add an awning, or simply get a large free-standing umbrella in a cheery color. Choose one which coordinates with the look and color scheme of your home and landscaping.
Outdoor lighting - It's now easier than ever to find lamps and lighting for your outdoor space which are as beautiful and functional as ones for indoor spaces. Major retailers and to the trade companies are offering lamps and even chandeliers that are rated for outdoor use.
Color -I think one of the best ways to add color to your outdoor space is through the use of fabrics. Add new colorful cushions to your outdoor furniture. Or how about a new colorful umbrella? Another way to add color is with plants and flowers. In addition to planting some in-ground, try hanging some overhead, placing some in lovely stands, or on shepherd's hooks around the perimeter of your porch or patio.
Get creative - And share your ideas with me! I am always looking for new ideas for sprucing up the exterior of my house. Maybe you can give me some ideas!
