How to Spring Clean Custom Window Treatments

As you might have guessed, never for any reason should you take down your custom window treatments and run them through a washing machine or even take them to a dry cleaner.  Custom window treatments are not intended to be taken down and manipulated in any way.  The good news - most fabrics that are used for window treatments have a special finish that resist any type of soiling.  And it is not as though these treatments are being handled or walked on - typically they are just doing their job, beautifully dressing your windows and accenting your surroundings.

There are three things you can do if you are feeling the need to freshen up your window treatments.
1.  The best way to eliminate dust that may gather on your custom window treatments is to use a lint roller.  You know, the masking tape type you use for your clothing. Simply use the roller and pick up any dust that may linger toward the tops of the treatments.  Roll the lint roller between swag folds, on top of board mounted valances and along vertical edges of drapery panels.
2.  Fabreeze is a wonderful product that really does remove lingering odors in fabric, and can make a world of difference if you feel that any scent has been trapped in your fabrics.
3.  You can use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment  and brush with low suction to run lightly over your treatments to remove any surface soil.

Cleaning Hunter Douglas Products
Hunter Douglas designs their window fashions to require minimal care and cleaning. You won't have to do much to keep them looking like new, aside from regular dusting and periodic vacuuming. They create products that are dust, soil and stain resistant, and exhaustively research cleaning solutions for spot-cleaning, from mild soap to lemon oil to wood preservatives, so that they know what works best with each product.

Wrinkles
Lastly, another great time saver is Wrinkle Release from Downy.  It does wonders on taking out wrinkles from your comforter covers and duvets- quickly and easily, without dragging out the iron and ironing board.  Perfect for quick touch-ups on items from your linen closet, too.

I hope these tips help you freshen up your draperies for Spring!
