Pro Process is a division of Metco Industries, Inc. The venture began in 2002 to perform secondary machining operations on powdered metal products for Metco. The very first machines purchased by Pro Process were from Allegheny Machine Tools Inc. and since then they have purchased many more machines from AMTSI.
A few years ago, Metco and Pro Process capitalized on an opportunity to manufacture parts for a new electric power steering project. They asked AMTSI to look at potential solutions to produce these parts and due to the high volume, they wanted an automated load/unload machine tool. The parts geometry consisted of a thin wall with tight geometric tolerances on roundness and diameters.
Based on preliminary work done by Pro Process, they felt a Northfield air chuck was the best work holding solution. Prints were sent to Engineers at Wasino and AMTSI. After analyzing the part and work holding requirements, Pro Process was presented with a machining time estimate and a Wasino J1 cell machine quotation utilizing an air chuck. Pro Process, AMTSI and Wasino made a trip to Northfield Workholding located in the New Jersey area to visit a few machine shops that had been using Wasino J1 cells. After the trip Pro Process was convinced that the Wasino J1 cellular concept was the best and most economical solution for this new project.
The first Wasino J1 was purchased and sent to AMTSI, where the machine was set-up, runoff and approved prior to shipping to Pro Process. AMTSI service and application engineers then duplicated the runoff at the Pro Process facility.
When Mark Myers started managing the shop for Pro Process, the second Wasino J1 cell was being installed. Mark said he was a little skeptical because of the compact design of the J1 cell as he needed to maintain .0007" total tolerance on these parts. But Mark said they have performed extremely well. The machines run all day, every day, while holding the tight tolerance with no problem. He has run approximately 50,000 parts to date with no problems at all.
Pro Process is hoping to add more Wasino's for future projects.

AMTSI and Amada Wasino will have a J1 cell at the Erie Tool Show on April 21st and, 22nd 2009.
