Dear Friends,
At Planet Action, we had a busy summer. Patricia was in San Diego for the annual ESRI Users Conference and was able to catch up on new GIS developments and enjoy an informal dinner party with partners and project leaders.
We are now preparing for our Planet Action REDD+ Workshop, "What to Expect from Geo-Information Technologies as a REDD Enabler", to be held in Paris on October 26th. Click here to see the agenda and to register.
We continue to receive interesting feedback from projects that have benefited from imagery and technology grants. Thanks! Please keep it coming.
Our action plan for the remainder of the year includes the events listed at the left along with CIFOR Forest Day. We will also spend some time working with our African NGOs and partners on raising awareness about climate change and the essential role of geo-information technologies in that combat.
We look forward to hearing from you and remain committed to bringing imagery and technology to activists in the field.

Interview with Philippe Lacour-Gayet Founder and Treasurer of IDO
IDO is an independent and non-profit humanitarian organization, whose mission is to contribute to the development of clean drinking water supplies to rural populations living in impoverished areas. IDO's first project was in Chad in 2008/2009 and now they are starting a new operation in the Kouilou region of the Republic of Congo. IDO received satellite pictures over Chad and ArcInfo software from Planet Action - both of which have been extremely useful to map progress. "We thank again Planet Action for its support".

Sudden Dieback of Eucalyptus Wandoo Linked to Climate Change in Australia by Centre of Excellence for Climate Change, Woodland, and Forest Health
In Australia, the reduction in Mediterranean climate extent by the end of 21st century could be as high as 51% (Klausmeyer and Shaw, 2009). This could cause a serious threat to wandoo forests which are already under stress. Brad Evans from the Centre of Excellence for Climate Change, Woodland, and Forest Health leads this project and proposes to use SPOT HRVIRs images to study the health of wandoo forests over a known period of extreme climate variability.

Protecting the Islands Environment in Cambodia by Marine Conservation Cambodia
Marine Conservation Cambodia (MCC) is a project that is devoted to protecting and conserving Cambodia's marine environment and the livelihoods of the island communities that rely on its resources. The MCC team and its volunteers continuously monitor the health of coral reefs, looking at the effects of coral bleaching. They assist local communities to diversify their livelihoods, to help anticipate and counteract the impact of climate change on their fisheries resources.
