Say NO to Violence Against Women |
 |
There are less than 3 weeks to go before UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund for Women) will hand over all signatures to the Say NO to Violence Against Women campaign to UN Secretary - General Ban Ki-moon. So far, more than 500,000 people have added their names. This is an enormous show of support, yet we are still aiming for 1 million signatures.
Today, we would like to ask you to spread the word further and encourage 3 friends to sign up. Ask them to join an ever growing movement of people who demand that violence against women be a top priority for governments around the world.
Let your voices be heard - only then can we begin the dialogue of safety for all women.

Greetings!
Ahh, November. We get to enjoy Mother Nature's final masterpiece of dynamic, breathtaking displays of colors as we slowly feel the whispers of Old Man Winter shaking the leaves off the trees.
November also begins the holiday season and Daylight Savings Time. With all of this, awareness of our surroundings becomes even more important.
Enjoy this month's articles. Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Holiday Safety Thoughts |
The reality is that as the year closes, we become busier and busier with lots to do and more travel than usual. Now more than ever, we need to be focused on our own and our family's personal safety.
I can never stress enough the fact that we need to be extra vigilant about our personal safety during the holidays. To become better prepared we need to think in terms of "What If" scenarios and how we would react in an emergency.
This is not about living in a state of fear. More, it is about being prepared and aware.
So while you are holiday shopping, or travelling, or socializing, be more vigilant about your safety. Pay more attention to your surroundings. Think through various possible emergency situations that could happen; play out a few strategies of what you should do and how to react "just in case". File them away in your memory and know that if you have to respond, that you can simply call them up like a reflex.
As a kid, we used to be told, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." That saying still applies today.

Used Cell Phones Save Lives |
Help Protect Another Woman by Going Green
Women's Self-Defense Institute is working with Shelter Alliance, a Miramar, Florida firm specializing in the logistics and underwriting of fundraising programs through the collection and responsible recycling of used cellular phones. Shelter Alliance currently works with over 2000 social service organizations nationwide collecting cell phones for 911 emergency purposes and fundraising and has contributed over $5,000,000 to participating organizations.
"We are very excited about this new fundraising opportunity," said Angie M. Tarighi, CEO & Founder of Women's Self-Defense Institute and EasySafety4U.com. "Not only will the collection of used cell phones benefit the work done by women's centers in New Jersey to help victims of domestic violence, but the process also helps to protect our environment. By donating a used, unwanted cell phone, it allows community members to donate to an important cause without reaching into their wallets. With hundreds of thousands of used cell phones sitting idly in our community, the fundraising potential is almost limitless."
Please feel free to mail your used cell phone to us. Thank you. |
