Dear Friends,

Coming soon -- a new look for LIVE OAK MEDIA!

Change is good, right?   Since we're celebrating the 30th anniversary of Live Oak Media this year, we thought it was time for a change in our looks. So, we've re-designed our logo and are working on updating our website.   Visit our site within the next week or so for a fresh, fun and fantastic new look to our website.  (You're getting a little preview in the newsletter with the new logo/banner and colors!)

Meantime, one thing we'll never change is our commitment to quality -- we'll be releasing some awesome new productions this fall. AND, as always, we continue to offer our customers the best possible service (and if we don't, we want to hear from you so we can improve!)  Thanks for your support.

Catch the Last Train!

A fantastic, fun event is planned for the launch of the simultaneous book publication and audio production of The Last Train, written by Gordon Titcomb and illustrated by Wendell Minor. This evocative tribute to the bygone days of steam train travel and bustling stations in small towns throughout America will captivate train lovers of all ages. Live Oak Media's readalong, part of the Music Makers series, features Titcomb reading and performing the lyrics of the book, which are based on his song of the same name.

Last Train Invitation

Join us, along with Roaring Brook Press, for an author and illustrator appearance at Essex Steam Train and Riverboat in Essex, CT. Ride a train pulled by Locomotive No. 40, the steam engine Wendell Minor chose as the "big iron horse" for his paintings throughout the pages of The Last Train!

Can't make the train? See the video book trailer here.
Special Fall Promotion
We just mailed out our catalog for the second time this year and we're offering a special fall promotion -- purchase over $100 and receive a 10% discount and free shipping on your order. Just  use the promotion code Fall10 when placing your order.

We print only one catalog with all of our new releases for the year, as well as the complete backlist of titles.  The original, larger mailing goes out in January and a smaller number get mailed in the fall.

But, we wonder...do you look forward to receiving a print catalog or does it go directly into the recycle bin? Do you use the catalog as an ordering tool? Environmental and cost concerns have led many companies to reduce or eliminate print versions of their catalogs.  As a small business, we strive to understand and meet our customers' needs (and we do our best to have removed from the mailing list those of you who notify us). For me, leisurely thumbing through a paper catalog, turning down corners to mark items of interest is a guilty pleasure -- though generally I go to the website to place the actual order.  Still, receiving several copies of the same catalog throughout a season is annoying  and wasteful. So, we'd love to hear your thoughts on this subject. Email me: debra@liveoakmedia.com and we'll send you a small gift of thanks.
Rave Reviews and Awards for Recent Releases
This Jazz ManWe're proud of the media praise and awards given to some of our recent releases and we'd like to share them with you.

AudioFile Magazine bestowed Earphones Awards to A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever and This Jazz Man. In its starred review, Booklist writes, "This highly recommended production-interweaving picture-book storytelling, jazz history, dynamic vocalizations, and a smoking jazz combo-elevates and extends the print version."

PenguinSLJ praised If You Were a Penguin noting, " The
production concludes with audio clips of penguin voices from the largest emperor to the smallest fairy. Antonia Bath is an unobtrusive narrator who lets the illustrations and her words carry the listener to another habitat. Her delivery is clear, her speed measured to provide moments for visualization and imagining. Gentle background music and sound effects provide atmosphere."

Wagon WheelsLife on the Kansas prairie comes to life in the easy reader Wagon Wheels by Barbara Bader. "This exceptionally fine production raises a significant piece of historical fiction to a very high level" writes SLJ.

The Ready-to-Read series HOW OUR WEATHER WORKS has four titles -- Clouds, Rain, Snow and Wind, all level 1 easy readers. The series review from SLJ notes "Paula Parker reads each book in a measured, warm voice. Light music and sound effects are included but do not distract from the content. Page-turn signals are optional. Audio quality is excellent, and youngsters will enjoy perusing John Wallace's bold watercolor-and ink illustrations as they read along. Primary teachers will welcome this series for their reading centers."
