| Move your body, move your mind | |
Often these days we hear about how our minds and our bodies are linked. Through meditation we can become more aware of how the states of mind and emotional reactions we experience through the day play out in our body. Likewise, what we do with our body and the environments we put it in have an effect on our state of mind. The upside of this is we can get things flowing in our mind and emotions by moving our body. Notice how good you feel after a stretch or a brisk walk? Conversely, if our body is hunched up, or our legs our crossed tightly, our mind probably is too! We can start to pay attention to this by noticing how our posture actually makes us feel, including the healthy and supportive ways we can use our body.

If you spend most of your working days sitting at a computer, track your posture through the day. Break things up with regular movement, at least every 50 minutes. The article below tells of workplaces in Sydney that are introducing very different ways of structuring work environments which provide for much more activity and flexibility during a work day, with corresponding benefits to health and satisfaction. If your workplace is less flexible, you can get creative. Walk the long way to the copier, do some simple stretches at the hand basin. It's also great to do simple eye exercises looking softly and then further in the distance. Notice your breathing when you do this compared to how you breathe when fixed on the computer screen. http://www.theage.com.au/executive-style/fitness/stand-and-deliver-20120331-1w51r.html

Joy of being - 26-28 Oct Without realising it, we often look outside of ourselves to the people and situations around us in order to feel good. As our feelings are a part of our own life it is possible to take our emotional well-being into our own hands...
Opening fully to life - the creative act of being 16-18 Nov
When we let go of our expectations, we are open to what is happening, right there in front of us, right here and now. Instead of being caught up in our hopes and fears, we can then engage fully in the dance of life... |
