Meditation tip: time out

We've just finished two week-long retreats at our Tara Hills Retreat Centre. It's great to see people finding their natural energy and enthusiasm and becoming aware of new things after some time out.

Even if you aren't able to undertake something like that, just a day or even a morning here and there can help to restore some balance. Consider where you might be able to set aside some time to switch off all the 'stuff'.

Leave the computer and tv off, the phone too if you can... spend a few hours outside, or even a whole day in the open air - it can do wonders for your body and soul. If you live in Adelaide, you could visit one of the great parks that run through the hills and foothills, or spend time near a lake or the sea. If you live elsewhere, one of the great things about Australia is that it is rarely too far to get to some bush or open space. Tune in to nature and the environment around you.

Time out

It's good to remember that it is possible to let things go, even for a little while. We don't have to be planning ahead all of the time. Allowing a little space might even help you see something in a different light. Have you ever noticed a solution to a problem coming to you when you'd stopped thinking about it? In fact, various studies show that having some time off can make you more productive:

Retreat: Letting go, coming home

Letting go, coming home - 24-26 Aug

This retreat will draw on the wisdom of the meditation tradition - once you have achieved, created or done, then the path to contentment comes through letting go. Instead of chasing more, let your mind return home, returning to balance and joy...

Other retreats coming up

Opening fully to lifeMusic as meditation - 14-16 Sep
Music is the language of emotion, the language of feeling. It transports us out of the chattering mind and into a world of colour, passion and yearning; the highs and lows of emotional life. How does it work? Why is it so effective? Explore the links with meditation...

Joy of BeingJoy of being - 26-28 Oct
Without realising it, we often look outside of ourselves to the people and situations around us in order to feel good. As our feelings are a part of our own life it is possible to take our emotional well-being into our own hands...

Opening fully to lifeOpening fully to life - the creative act of being
16-18 Nov

When we let go of our expectations, we are open to what is happening, right there in front of us, right here and now. Instead of being caught up in our hopes and fears, we can then engage fully in the dance of life...

What happens on a Lifeflow retreat? Retreats are a wonderful opportunity to get some space for yourself, and get some perspective on what's been happening in your life. Enjoy a break from normal pressures, relax deeply and return home with your outlook refreshed. In all retreats you will learn a range of short 'spot' and longer meditations and be guided through deep relaxations and gentle stretch and breathe sessions. The food is wonderful too!

Two scholarships are awarded each half year for use on our retreats - see our Scholarships page or download the Retreat Scholarship application form.
