| Meditation tip - happy little Vegemites | |
Most often we use a spot meditation to help calm us down. The most useful way to use them in everyday life is to get back to our body. It's also nice to remember though that our energies naturally come up as well - and that results in that most beautiful of curves - a smile!
Next time you need a bit of a lift or are feeling a bit down, try one of our regular Spot Meditations - an instant calm breath, or bringing your attention to your contact points. Then have a go at this exercise. Start by bringing your attention to the corners of your mouth. One at a time, or both together if you like. What do you notice? How do they feel? You might notice some movement, or a shift in feeling. Next, how do your cheeks feel? See if you can expand your awareness to include them. Finally, bring your attention to the outer corners of your eyes - how do they feel? Now bring your mind back to whatever you were thinking about before. Do you feel differently about it? Just becoming aware of our face in this way can also work well when you're in the middle of something like a meeting or a conversation to help us lighten up a little and connect more. So often we're looking stern without realising and letting this release can make us feel a whole lot better too.
And for a bit of extra fun, try imagining a rose in every cheek! ;)

| Enjoy some time out with a Lifeflow retreat |
Mindfulness in action - living now - 18-20 May - limited places left
We all know the feeling of being overwhelmed by our "to-do" lists and not being able to switch off. So much of our energy can go into making plans for the future and getting caught in the past that we can end up not living our life fully, just running on autopilot. Using the skills of mindfulness you can learn to be kind to yourself, restore some calm and inner peace, and fully open to your life here and now.

What happens on a Lifeflow retreat? Retreats are a wonderful opportunity to get some space for yourself, and get some perspective on what's been happening in your life. Enjoy a break from normal pressures, relax deeply and return home with your outlook refreshed. In all retreats you will learn a range of short 'spot' and longer meditations and be guided through deep relaxations and gentle stretch and breathe sessions. The food is wonderful too! |

| Article: me and my shadow | |
One of the greatest discoveries of Western psychology is that of the unconscious and the shadow side of our personality. I became fascinated with this topic when I was in my early twenties and underwent a complete Jungian analysis. Carl Jung was the famous Swiss psychologist of the early twentieth century who was a student of Freud, and I had access to the complete works of both. For two years I was immersed in studying them.
Freud and Jung were pioneers of the new discipline of psychology and they explored and mapped the world of our individual identity. When it comes to understanding how our identity is built, the unconscious, and how they relate to each other, our own culture has no equal.
'Western psychology is dedicated to understanding ...[an] independent sense of individuality and personal identity. Eastern, Buddhist psychology on the other hand, is dedicated to understanding and opening up the inner world beyond our own individual identity.'
