Saturday 28 May, from 10 am onwards Tara Hills Retreat Centre Members seminar at Tara Hills The many methods of mantra The word 'mantra' is now well lodged in common English language. Most people understand it as a word or phrase used repetitively to generate some effect or drive a message home. Most people have some idea of its origins from mystical India. Genuine practitioners of mantra have a more sophisticated and nuanced relationship to the concept. However they don't always appreciate the diversity of methods of mantra used. In this seminar, Lifeflow teacher Ian Nuberg will share his insights into the theory and practice of mantra, gleaned from his 37 years of experience working with different forms of mantras. The discussion will include suggestions on how you can approach your own mantra practice in both informal and formal sessions. It will conclude with an opportunity to experience using the practice of 'silent mantra'. Ian Nuberg Sunday 29 May 11 am - 12.30 pm Tara Hills Retreat Centre 7-day retreat at Tara Hills Calm and clear - natural stillness, natural insight
The practice of retreat can be used to let the mind settle into a deep state of calm. This is not just an end in itself; it can also be a starting point for watching what is happening in your mind - observing the endless array of stories, emotions, feelings and sensations that move through. You may eventually have the realisation that none of them last forever, none of them are fundamental. This raises the question: what is fundamental? What is universal? One of the core functions of meditation is to open to and experience the fundamental nature of mind. This is what we'll explore in this retreat. It begins with balance, learning to recognise being in a balanced state, and building on this as a fundamental quality to be brought through all of life. 10-16 July Tara Hills Retreat Centre Find out more on our Members Classes and Members Retreats pages. |
