Weekend retreat at Tara Hills Longing, love and letting go - exploring our search for wholeness Human beings have an inherent desire for wholeness or completeness. On this retreat we will explore the mythology, symbols and messages in our culture that feed and encourage states of longing and romantic love, and promise fulfilment. Why don't these states fulfil us? How can the practice of meditation help us to understand and experience union, both within ourselves and with the world around us? 7 pm Fri 6 Nov- 2 pm Sun 8 Nov Advanced visualisation at Tara Hills Embraced by Nature A unique opportunity to experience and cultivate a deeper feeling for our fundamental connection with the environment. | Spring meditation tip: warm up time |
|
Rushing to get your meditation done? Remember to spend at least a few minutes doing some of the physical loosening exercises beforehand. Five minutes spent freeing up the body, pays big dividends when it comes to freeing up your mind:
- Shake out: at least give the arms and legs a good shake
- Round shoulders or shoulders around? Gently rotate your shoulders around - three times in each direction
- Get swinging: stand with legs about shoulder width apart and gently swing your arms from side to side. Feel the gentle massaging effect along the length of your spine
- Yoga Massage: gently form a fist with one hand and tap all over your body - particularly over the chest and ribs as you breathe in an out - feel your skin coming alive!
Find out more: these warm-ups and many other meditations can be found in the Lifeflow recommended text by Graham Williams Life in Balance. They are also on CD 1 of the Joy of Being 4-CD set.

| Learning a skill: it's the quality of concentration, not the quantity, that counts |
In a ground breaking study, Swedish psychologist Anders Ericsson investigated the critical factors that get people to the top. He came to the controversial conclusion that it is 'deliberate practice' that takes someone there, not innate talent. In a nutshell, it is the quality of concentration that counts, rather than just the quantity. Ericsson also found that the students who performed best took siestas in the afternoon-they could concentrate better after their rest.
