Freedom Starts in the Heart
By Dr. James Roy Pence
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Freedom has been a dream of mankind throughout the ages. It was even incorporated in the laws and the spiritual make up of Israel. The definition of freedom in the Hebrew meant freedom from slavery.
I went into the military in 1957. I wanted to fight for the freedom of the oppressed. However, I really did not know what freedom was all about until I met a black Corporal named Ethos
Ethos had been in the Army twenty years and was the lowest ranking non-commissioned officer. While talking to him one day I found out that he had been a Master Sergeant. I asked him why he was now a corporal. He said he had got into an outfit that was very prejudiced. They kept on him until they busted him as far down as they could.
I then asked him why he stayed in the military when he had been treated so badly. He replied, "I can't stop fighting for freedom!" He told me his great-grandfather had been a plantation slave and freedom had been put in the hearts of the next generations. Now, I understood his desire be free and to fight for the freedom of others.
Isaiah 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Every intention of the Lord was to bring freedom to every soul! He paid the price so it is a free gift to us.
Psalm 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Just like freedom in the natural, freedom in the spiritual comes with responsibility.
God expects us to be born again for this is the only way we can be free. We must repent of our sins, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to bury the old man, and then allow the Spirit of true liberty to enter our human vessels.
I hope we never take the things of God for granted. Cherish, and maintain your spiritual freedom. Freedom must start in the heart and become our life's passion. |

Missionary Schedule for Arizona
July 19-24, 2011 Steve and Cheri Smith, Guyana Steve and Cheri Smith were pastoring in Illinois when they felt God's call to serve in Guyana, South America. They served first as AIMers for a year and a half before receiving their appointment as full-time missionaries in 2002. Presently they have been working in Guyana for the past six years between AIM service, deputation, and are now into their second year of this term. Smith serves as the superintendent of the work and as the Bible school president. He and his wife both teach in the Bible school. She serves as the national Sunday School director, and they pastor two churches, including the headquarters church in the capital city of Georgetown. Their three children Alexia, Steven, and Cameron, are all involved in the work and enjoy serving the Lord in Guyana. He states, "We're so blessed to be missionaries in beautiful Guyana, the 'Land of Many Waters'."
July 26-31, 2011 Radovan and Tanya Hajduk, Croatia/Slovenia Radovan and Tanya Hajduk served on AIM in Novi Sad, Serbia for two years before moving to Canada. Radovan was part of the platform and youth ministry and Tanya helped in Sunday School at UPC of Oshawa. Radovan was born in Serbia and had an abused childhood. His testimony and ministry have reached hundreds of people who have experienced abuse. Tanya is missionary Samuel Balca¿s daughter and was born and raised on the foreign field. The Hajduk¿s served on AIM again in 2006. They spent nine months in the Baltic Republics and over a year in Croatia, where they presently are working with various home groups in order to pioneer a church. Upon returning to the field, they will settle in the capital city, Zagreb, and work on establishing a church there, find new contacts and travelling also in Slovenia, pioneering works.
August 9-14, 2011 Ed and Naomi Hosmer, Japan While on active duty with the U.S. Air Force in Japan, Ed Hosmer and his wife Naomi were under Paul Dennis's ministry. Due to an overwhelming burden to reach the Japanese people with the gospel and a specific calling on their lives to evangelize Japan, Hosmer sacrificed a promising law enforcement career and separated from the military. They pursued their calling by serving as AIMers for eight years and currently pastor one of the fastest growing UPC churches in Japan. They received their appointment as UPCI missionaries to Japan in 2002. They have created a bilingual discipleship program which is very effective in training saints and national leaders and ministers. Having lived in Japan for over 15 years (Ed) and being a Japanese national with a command of the language (Naomi), the Hosmers are valuable assets to the kingdom of God in reaching the Japanese people with Bible salvation.
August 30-September 4, 2011
Eddy and Della Mae Kennedy, Pacific, New Caledonia
Canadians Eddy and Della Mae Kennedy are graduates of the United Pentecostal Bible Institute of New Brunswick, Canada. For several years they worked under AIM appointment, laboring in the countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritius, and Botswana. In 1996, they became fully appointed missionaries to French-speaking Reunion, Mauritius, and the Seychelles and were successful in founding the first UPC of Reunion Island. In 2002, the Foreign Missions Board approved their transfer to New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Region and an unevangelized target area for the UPCI. After deputation and a period of language study in France, the Kennedys moved to New Caledonia in early 2006. They received registration approval for the church in April 2006 and rented a location for holding services the following August. The Kennedys are now working with a small group of people who are attending regularly as well as with other new contacts.
September 6-11, 2011 Michael and Dianna Tuttle, Holland/Netherlands
Mike Tuttle's involvement in the International Youth Corps in 1971 and 1972 helped to prepare him for missions work. After graduating from Conquerors Bible College in 1975, he worked for one year in Germany under the FMD's Missionary Helper program and CBC's Ministerial Internship program. In 1982 he returned to Germany with his wife and young son to pastor a military church in Baumholder as an associate in missions. In 1984 the Tuttles received their appointment as UPCI missionaries to The Netherlands. Since being in Holland, they have reopened the work in Hoofddorp, opened a new work in Zaandam, reestablished the work in Dordrecht, and begun an intensive training program. Mike and Dianna Tuttle reside in Zwijndrecht, a small town south of Rotterdam and near the church in Dordrecht.
October 4-9, 2011 Crystal Reece, Tonga
November 8-13, 2011
William and Ramona Schlege, INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY, Turkey November 15-20, 2011 Ed and Mary Simmons, Thailand Edward Simmons has served as: pastor, Christian school teacher and administrator, Bible school instructor and vice-chairman, and associate pastor. He was the senior associate pastor at Revival Tabernacle, San Diego, California, when he and his wife received their missionary appointment to Thailand in March 2004. The Simmonses went to Thailand in 2001 on the AIM program and preached at the general conference, in many churches, and at the youth conference; taught Bible studies; ministered in Cambodia and northern Thailand; and visited Laos and the Burmese border. They had some very interesting experiences while there: a Malaysian viper in the hotel lobby, a wasp attack, a shootout in Cambodia directly in front of their van, four-wheeling to mountain tribal villages, and listening to the Thai artillery shelling Burmese troops who had crossed the border. Best of all, they saw 38 souls receive the Holy Ghost and 30 baptized in Jesus' name. December 6-11, 2011 Michael and Lisa Long, Vanuatu Mike and Lisa Long received their missionary appointment to Vanuatu in October 2001. He pastored a daughter work of Christian Outreach Center, Houston, Texas, before he and his wife went to Botswana in 1996 to labor as associates in missions with Tim and Carolyn Simoneaux. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in 1999, another AIM assignment took the Longs to Vanuatu in the South Pacific. He stated, "Since we have been in Vanuatu, we have had the opportunity to go into areas that do not have churches and get the ball rolling to establish a church in their community. We have done this through crusades and home Bible Studies. In one area we have had over 30 in a Bible study. We have been asked to start three churches in different villages and are praying that God will send pastors to these areas." To schedule a missionary for your church contact Bro. Kelley at:
