Commencement: An Open Door
Rev. Ezekiel and Charlene Johnson
Rev. E Johnson

By Ezekiel Johnson

Excitement, anticipation, joy, sadness, Term Papers, cap and gown, and Finals are just a few familiar emotions and items many students can relate to as we approach the graduation season. Inevitably, mixed feelings are sure to abound as thoughts of the people and events which have added richness to the journey, along with the uncertainty of what lays ahead, races to the fore. One thing that's for sure, life as it is will change. Much in the same way, as we contemplate answering the call of God, we wrestle many of these same emotions. This is especially true when faced with the decision to leave a church family to go to another; or to start one.

Graduation brings a genuine sense of accomplishment. Moreover, the ceremony, which recognizes and rewards academic achievement, evokes pride in supporters, and rightly celebrates cumulative years of diligence by underscoring the intuitive resoundingly clear message: hard work pays off.

Similarly, hard fought battles and victories won reveal spiritual maturity forged
through the crucible of experience. Furthermore, drawing a comparison between our pre-Christ state and the present educes a genuine appreciation of his work and the discipline it has produced. Thus, we discover it is not the end rather the beginning as the foundation has been laid qualifying us to open the next door of opportunity.

Notwithstanding, there is a natural inclination to succumb to the temptation to discount the time God has spent preparing us for a task; especially when it is thrust upon us suddenly or unexpectedly. Nevertheless, it is incumbent upon us to realize that the unique experiences instrumental in developing our paradigm are comparable to that of a student taking an advanced level course while enrolled in his current grade level. Undoubtedly, God is well acquainted with the task for which he is training us, including its anomalies, nuances, and caveats which break dramatically from the normal ebb and flow of life. Peter forewarns us with these words, "...think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you" (1 Peter 4:12). Thus, God refines us for challenges that he, being "Alpha and Omega", knows we will encounter while answering his call.

The open door is filled with many choices. Consequently, some will re-enter the halls of academia to further their readiness, while others, armed with a grasp of their mission, venture out to make their mark on the world. Ultimately, God speaks to influence us in many ways as to his plan and purpose and most importantly; his timing. At our appointed time or at his return, all of our preparation will be rewarded with a final commencement into glory.

Ezekiel is pastor of Great Commission Center located in South Phoenix, which he and his wife, Charlene started in 2008.  Originally from Pennsylvania, he attended Millersville University as well as Texas Bible College and has worked in various capacities in several ministries.  Additionally, the Johnson's are enjoying the privilege of raising three wonderful children; Cheyenne, EJ, and Ashton.
Don't Quit Too SoonRev. E & Sue Dean
By Rev. Eckard Dean

I would like to share that while working for the Lord, planting a church can have many trials.  At times, I thought about leaving, but I have learned that they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength and mount up with wings as eagles.

One time when I wanted to pack up and leave, I found a letter from a pastor entitled, "The pastor that left too soon."  It was a letter from the heart of a man that realized his mistake in leaving a church too soon.

Also, it is not wise to compare yourselves with others.  If you are a church of 5, 25 or 105, you are still the church for that city.  When I first came to Globe, I was looking for a church building and the Lord spoke to me and said, "I did not call you to save buildings but I called you to reach people".

Home missionaries, be encouraged, if God called you to a town and if you wait upon the Lord, He will verify His calling.  Don't quit too soon!

Bro. Dean was filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus' Name as a teenager. The Lord later called him to preach under the ministry and leadership of Bro. Sam White. Through a dream, he was called to Arizona to start a church in Globe. God has blessed and their church building is completly paid for!  They have seen many souls baptized in Jesus' Name and filled with the Holy Ghost.  Many have come, many have gone and many are continuing with the Lord in other states. It has been a birthing place for many souls. The church in Globe is looking forward to the year of 2010 as a revival year and a year of blessing. Bro. Dean is the Arizona Sunday School Director and his wife Sis. Sue Dean is the Arizona Ladies Ministries Secretary.

St Louis - March 6, 2010
Rev. David Bernard
2009 Senior Camp 1

The United Pentecostal Church International inaugurated the Reverend Doctor David K. Bernard as general superintendent of the 3-million-member organization Friday evening. The ministers of the organization selected Reverend Bernard at their 85th annual General Conference held in St Louis last October.

The inauguration service was held at The Sanctuary in Hazelwood, Missouri, with a reception that followed at New Life Center in Bridgeton, Missouri. There were five speakers: Reverend Rodney Shaw, Austin, Texas; Reverend Darrell Johns, Atlanta, Georgia; Reverend Ken Gurley, Pearland, Texas; Reverend Bernard's father, Reverend Elton Bernard, Gonzales, Louisiana; and Reverend David K. Bernard gave his inaugural address.

David K. Bernard founded New Life United Pentecostal Church of Austin, Texas, out of which sixteen additional churches were started under his leadership. He is also the founding president of Urshan Graduate School of Theology. He earned a doctor of jurisprudence with honors from the University of Texas, a master of theology from the University of South Africa (where he is also completing his doctoral dissertation), and a bachelor of arts magna cum laude in mathematical sciences and managerial studies from Rice University. The author of thirty books with over seven hundred fifty thousand copies in print, he has been published in thirty-six languages and has ministered in forty-six countries on six continents. He and his wife, Connie, have three children-Daniel, Lindsey, Jonathan and his wife, Sara-and one grandson, Elijah.

The United Pentecostal Church International, headquartered in St Louis, has 30,000 churches in 192 nations around the world and a ministerial membership of 27,000. It was formed in 1945 from the merger of two previously established organizations. The UPCI emerged out of the Pentecostal movement that began in Topeka, Kansas, in 1901. It traces its organizational roots to October 1916, when a large group of ministers withdrew from the Assemblies of God over the doctrinal issues of the oneness of God and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. Reverend Bernard is the seventh general superintendent in the church organization's history.

Act 2:38 Message is Taught in Public Schools!
       Montes

Tucson, AZ- March 20th, 2010. Tucson International Academy will be adding a third after school Bible club at their Midvale campus with an apostolic member teaching the Act 2:38 messages. Breanna Bretz, a student from the West campus , has recently been baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost after being a member of this growing after school bible club! A fourth Bible club has also been requested by the charter school for its Eastside location and is currently in the process of being developed. This is an amazing opportunity for Christians to bring God back into the public schools.

This all began when Juny Montes, a member of Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church enrolled her daughter in Kindergarten at the Central Tucson International Academy Campus in August 2007. While picking up her daughter from school, a staff member approached her after taking notice of her modest apparel and kind spirit and asked if she was a member of a church. The staff member explained that the school was looking for a church organization to replace the denominational group who would not be returning to teach their after school Bible club. Juny Montes and her husband David knew they couldn't pass up this open door to teach these children about the Lord and to their delight they were informed they could teach anything out of the Bible they wanted during this hour after school.

A second Bible club was formed back at the Central Tucson International Academy location in December of 2009. Cheryl Murray and Holly Preston also members of Faith Tabernacle Church, are teaching this group and it is thriving. We are expecting more students to come to the Lord in the coming months as the third campus in Midvale begins Bible study sessions and eventually the Eastside campus. To God be all the glory and honor for bringing His Word back into public schools when many have fought so hard to keep Him out!

Moses
May 4-9      Robert Moses, Russia
Robert and Sheri Moses were born and reared in Illinois. He came into the church at the age of 14 under Jack Jenkins's ministry in Toledo, Illinois. She, a third-generation Pentecostal, grew up in the small town of McClure and came to the Lord at the age of seven. They have been married for 25 years. During that time, they were involved in the ministry of Calvary Tabernacle, Toledo. In 1995, they began a home missions church in Marshall, Illinois. In 2000, God called them to go as AIM workers to Russia where they began working under the direction of William Turner in Moscow in summer 2001. After answering the call of God to Russia, God blessed their home with an adorable baby boy, Robert "Anthony," on January 12, 2001. In the 2002 General Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, they were appointed as intermediate missionaries to Russia

Jun 29-Jul 4 Jarad Staten, Republic of Georgia
Jared and Kim Staten worked as AIMers in the Republic of Georgia for one year. During that year they were able to re-establish a work that had been started previously. This work has multiplied since that contact. The pastor of the church is now licsensed as a UPCI minister and 15 people were baptized in that year. They also started a Bible school with 5 students, and the church in Georgia has also seen the growth of 4 house churches. When they return to the Republic of Georgia they plan to continue the work with the Bible school, establish a headquarters for the UPCI, and continue to establish new works in the major cities of Georgia and surrounding areas

DrostJul 6-11       Steven Drost, Mexico
Born to T. Wynn and Wanda Drost in Madrid, Spain, Steve Drost grew up on foreign fields and thrived on missions. It was only fitting that he should fall in love with and marry another MK (missionary kid), Danita Hanscom, the eldest daughter of Ron and Joy Hanscom, former missionaries to Pakistan. Shortly after their marriage, Steve Drost returned to Mexico with his new wife to serve as associates in missions. Upon their arrival, he began pastoring a church in Mexico City. Later he became the national youth director, a district secretary, and a Bible school teacher. She is the district women's secretary. Steve and Danita Drost received their missionary appointment in October 1995.
