30 Days of Prayer
January 2-31
Day 28 has been designated as a day in which we all jot the names of five people who need God and some perhaps at one time worshiped with us.

COME HOME DAY
February 21, 2010  is a special date designated as   COME HOME DAY by Global Impact.
We will be focusing upon those men and women and youth who for various reasons have fallen away from the church. With no questions asked, we want them to know that we love them and pray for them. Of course, we also miss them.
Paul warned all of us in I Corinthians 10:12 "Wherefore let him that thinks he stands, take heed, lest he fall." How easily that could happen to any one of us without the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

It would be great if we began now by writing down five names of those we would hope have worship with us on February 21, 2010---COME HOME DAY.
God's Perfect Gift To You - Your SpouseRev Phelps
By Rev. Steve and Yvette Phelps

Ask any child what their favorite part about Christmas and birthdays and they will most likely answer, "The gifts!"

Did you know that God gave you a special gift in this life?  He gave you a spouse!  In Ecclesiastes 9:9 it says, "Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that [is] thy portion in [this] life, and in thy labor which thou takest under the sun."  " In other words - enjoy your spouse, whom you love, because they are your gift (reward - "thy portion") from God!

Marriage holds an exceptionally high place with God. He even attended your marriage ceremony in Malachi 2:14 "...the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth...".  From the beginning God created marriage not only to save man from loneliness but also to mirror the greatness of the relationship between Jesus and his church.  The importance of this fact is monumental!  A study of the bible will reveal the parallel between...GOD and his CHURCH -- HUSBAND and WIFE!

Here are a couple of examples from the book of Ephesians:
"Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in everything."  (Ephesians 5:24)

"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it..."
(Ephesians 5:25)

God finds great pleasure in a godly marriage!  We have heard many couples that feel guilty for enjoying what God gave them.  We hear of couples feeling guilty for spending time working on their marriage because they feel they should concentrate more on the children or church. God said, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church."  There is passion in this statement!  Jesus dedicated his life to His church (His people)!  Saints we must to do the same with our perfect gift to us.

God never commanded you to "love your WORK, even as Christ also loved the church" or even "love your HOBBY, even as Christ also loved the church."  We believe that the Lord smiles down at a fulfilled marriage covenant and the example that a godly marriage brings to your children and families around you.

We must realize that an intimate and godly marriage is pleasing to our Lord! Working on having a great marriage is a form of honor to God. You can fail or succeed in your career and God will continue to be pleased with you (as long as you are godly). Failing at your marriage, on the other hand, hurts God because He hates divorce.  The bible says, " For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away" (Malachi 2:16).

With life's busy schedules and stressful times, it is especially important to build a stronger relationship with your spouse.  Our desire should be to have a marriage that reflects love and mercy.  And because there are not enough strong and godly marriages in our community, it is a dire need that our marriages truly reflect Jesus.  Let others see oneness, forgiveness, love, joy, passion, tenderness, and stability.  Give all that is within you to this wonderful relationship created by God and become a beacon of hope for hurting marriages around you!

Truly, God gave you a perfect gift - Your Spouse!

Steve and Yvette just celebrated their 23rd anniversary.  They have been helping marriages through Biblical teachings and counseling for nine years.  They pastor Prescott Landmark Church, Prescott, Arizona. They have three wonderful boys, Justin, Aaron and Kevin. The oldest is married to Tara who is expecting.  They are excited and anxiously awaiting their first grandson.

One Life to Live By Rev. Mike Vigil Rev.Mike & Debbie Vigil

"Only one life, a few brief years, Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears; Each with its days I must fulfill, living for self or in His will; Only one life, 'twill soon be past, Only what's done for Christ will last." -C. T. Studd

In July of 2009, we were informed about the untimely death of our son, Jack.  His life, thick with promise, lay perished in a lake very near his home: a vital, sentient young man of God, drown in a freak accident.  His dream was to be a pastor.  Thankfully his aspiration was fulfilled.  He ministered and lived in Hot Springs, South Dakota.  We may never understand or know what really happened on that tragic day. We reach for answers, and yearn to know the events, that led to his premature death.

Inquiry leads to somber reality when we ask; what about my life?  What is my purpose?  Fragile and vulnerable, our life is on loan to us from God.  I know I am not alone as I ponder in disbelief how the years pass by so quickly.  Opportunities within fingertip grasp have tapered away, left untouched by my hand and heart. I could have finished more and accomplished dreams. Not for myself, but for our Lord, for my family and friends and my neighbor.  I recognize that God is sovereign and understands and forgives my faults.  Everyday is a new beginning. The word of God speaks of life and how to live in a few scriptures: "Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." (Ephesians 5:15-17)  "The length of our days is seventy years- or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.  Who knows the power of your anger?  For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you. Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Psalm 90:10-12)

Leaving Colorado to fulfill God's call has placed my wife and I in peaceful harmony with God. We labor not for ourselves.  Or do we seek methods and programs to build 'our' church.  It is God's church. We are his servants sent here to increase His kingdom not ours. Sir Fred Hoyle, the astronomer wrote, "Everyone must wonder from time to time if there is any real purpose in life."  We found our purpose: His purpose! We have one life to live, only one life to respond to this reaching summons spoken by our Lord, "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me," (John 12:26) Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it" (Matthew 16:24-25) This is truly God's preeminent design for us!  I encourage us all to labor for His eternal kingdom, and allow the Lord to fulfill our purpose in life.

We know not what tomorrow may present or what may come our way.  Let's walk by faith: it pleases Him!  I want God to be untroubled and delighted with me!  Faith makes it possible to live in peace and blessing with God.  Life is not promised:  "By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. (1 Corinthians 3:10-13)

Jack lived life to the fullest.  He gave of himself tirelessly: the ideal friend.  We marveled as person after person claimed they were Jack's best friend.  He worked and labored into the wee hours of the morning on church projects often jeopardizing his secular career.  He left behind a template for us all to use.  He was a gift, a treasure.  We miss you, Jack.  We have a blessed hope, and we WILL see you again!

Louis and Martha Johnson pastored in Iowa for 11 years, during which time he served as the district's Conquerors secretary and president. In October 1989 they were appointed to Kenya. The Johnsons began to assist in reopening the church in Ethiopia in November 2005. In May 2006 their appointment was changed to Ethiopia and Rwanda. They moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in September 2006.

BrianFeb 16-21   Ron Brian, Haiti
From a very early age, Ron Brian received God's call to be a missionary. He vividly remembers standing on a chair as a small child to look at the missionary map. He dreamed that one day he would be able to fulfill that calling. It was not until years later that he moved his family to St. Louis, Missouri, to attend Gateway College of Evangelism. Immediately following graduation, the Brians began their ministry in Foreign Missions. The Brians have labored in Trinidad, Curacao, and currently reside in Haiti. Throughout their Foreign Missions ministry, they have placed great emphasis on training of national leaders through Bible school and seminars. Through personal evangelism, they have also established several new churches. Currently he serves as field superintendent of Haiti. Under their leadership, Haiti continues to experience revival on a grand scale. With 50,614 constituents, Haiti is the largest French-speaking UPCI work.

Lucas
Mar 30-Apr 4 Richard Lucas,Japan/Military, Asia
Although Richard Lucas was called to missions at about age six, and to Japan at about age 12, it was another 20 years before he and his wife Jean arrived in Japan. Originally sent to build churches reaching American military personnel, their work since 1993 has focused primarily on evangelizing the Japanese. Since 1997 Lucas has served as superintendent of the UPC of Japan. The work has grown from 73 UPCJ constituents in 1997 to 482. While the Lucases were on deputation, the work continued experiencing good solid growth. Their ministry includes personal soul winning, pastoring, leadership training, writing and leading a team translating materials for evangelism and training, and as superintendent leading the growing work. Their three sons, all born in Japan, have been used of the Lord to open wonderful doors of opportunity and are a great blessing in the work.
