News you can use - Supplier Update
Kings Landing Historical Settlement, Fredericton area Kings Landing has expanded their programming this season and each weekend will take on a different flavour! From Apple Fest to 19th century fashion (Bonnets, Bowlers, Buckles and Bows!), from Sweets for the Sweet (old fashioned desserts) to the Frolic and Fiddleheads opening week-end on June 12-13, there won't be a week without a special celebration!
On Mother's Day, Kings Landing Historical Settlement opened their newly expanded Simeon Jones Room in the Kings Head Inn, named after a famous New Brunswick brew master. Seating capacity has grown from 56 to 140 guests, and the room features a fireplace and a 19th century piano from the Kings Landing collection.
The King's Head Inn offers hearty 19th century fare, served by costumed staff in a warm 1855 atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of the village, the Inn used to be a stopping place for travelers to have a meal or spend the night. Today's patrons choose from delicious gourmet meals, a pint in the pub or a cup of old-fashioned tea and dessert!
Kings Landing's acclaimed summer camp, the Visiting Cousins program is expanding too! From 180 kids, the program will now be able to house 360 children, after renovations were completed to create a colourful and comfortable dormitory. Young campers from all over the country and abroad have enjoyed this unique experience, getting a full 19th century experience during a five day stay on the settlement.
Kings Landing now has an exciting partnership with AV Nackawic pulp mill where the mill is leasing its Pokiok Sugary to Kings Landing for the settlement to produce its own maple syrup. So now, in addition to Kings Landing's fresh brown bread, a bottle of maple syrup is another good reason to stop at the Museum store! www.kingslanding.nb.ca

Ferry-tale trip planning: BC Ferries opens new centre.
by Margo Pfeiff 31 May 2010
Courtesy of the Canadian Tourism Commission
British Columbia's coastline is carved up into a mosaic of islands and fjords that make ferries a vital-and fun and scenic-way to travel. BC Ferries, one of the world's biggest ferry transport systems, has been doing the job for half a century, sailing to 47 ports of call from Victoria to Prince Rupert.
To help folks book an entire ferry-based vacation, BC Ferries opened a BC Ferries Vacations Centre on May 11. It's on the main floor of the swanky new Fairmont Pacific Rim on the Vancouver, BC, waterfront. While you're there, drop in at the gift shop to pick up local art, jewellery, crafts and books from around coastal British Columbia. First you tap on an 8.4-sq-m (90-sq-ft) high-definition touch-screen media wall to peruse info and photos of over 20 BC coastal vacation packages. Plan a circle route by ferry hopping between the mainland and coastal islands. Think of it as a road trip with a marine component. And, starting this spring on the mainland to Vancouver Island route with partnership from C Spa, an onboard spa will have you indulging in a manicure, pedicure or chair massage while afloat.
You can hopscotch through the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island on a culinary tour to nibble local cheeses and wines, then drive through old-growth forests to surf the rollers of Long Beach in Tofino.
Paddle a kayak up dramatic fjords along the Sunshine Coast, taking a break to peek in at galleries along the Purple Banner Route.
Or head north on the Northern Expedition ferry from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert. It's an affordable way to cruise the Inside Passage and sets you up to ferry on the Northern Adventure ferry across to exotic, misty Haida Gwaii (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands) for a fishing adventure or a west coast "wildlife safari" in Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site.
Once you've picked and planned your trip, one of the human planners will book every last detail down to the accommodation, rental car, canoe or bike rental and fishing gear you think you might need. Then all you have to do is walk or drive on board.

Montréal tops list of North American international event host cities.
Quebec metropolis leads as Vancouver and Toronto complete top three in ICCA 2009 official rankings.
by CTC News Staff 27 May 2010
This text has been modified from its original
Bad luck, Boston; better luck next time, Washington, DC; and hard cheese, New York City. Montréal, QC, has just been designated the top host city in North America for international associative events in the 2009 International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) official rankings.
Wait-there's more. Completing a fine Canadian one-two-three, Vancouver, BC, came second and Toronto, ON, slid into third as the US big guns were spiked. The rankings are international recognition of the attraction Canada's leading cities have for major meetings, and as favoured destinations for business pros.
The news comes shortly after the Palais des congrès de Montréal became one of the finalists for the 2010 APEX Award, for which the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) acclaims the world's best congress centre.
In addition, the efforts in 2009 of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)'s meetings, conventions and incentive travel team in 2009 produced 43 new business leads across the country, valued at $17 million dollars. The team also identified 176 new prospects with the potential to bring business meetings to Canada in future years.
In terms of pure number of meetings per country in Latin and North America in 2009, Canada came third (215), behind the US (595) and Brazil (293). The US came out on top globally as well, while Canada placed 13th.
"It's hugely impressive that ICCA has recognized Montréal as the No. 1 host city in North America for international events," says Susan Frei, CTC International Meetings and Incentives director. "This will help the Canada brand-"Canada. Keep Exploring"-become more top of mind and get Canadian cities on the international buyers' radar as prime destinations for their future meetings."
