Meeting our Spirit Guides

Last month, I taught a workshop about the different types of dreams we have and the meanings associated with symbols, events, and spirits in them. We study our dreams to learn about ourselves and to process issues. Dreams are a way of assisting us in gaining perspective and growing. In addition, they are a way of linking us with the spirit world. Loved ones and spirit guides often appear to us in dreams and have messages for us to consider. Spirit guides are the primary topic for this month, and they come to us for very specific reasons.

Spirit guides often appear to us when we need to face our fears and need a spiritual boost. They assist us in dealing with issues and give us confidence when we may not otherwise receive it. Our guides are a valuable asset to us if we recognize the reason they appear to us. At first, it is often a mystery why a particular angel or guide appears.

When we meet a guide, we need to examine issues going on in our lives and how these relate to the message the guide is giving us. Once we understand the value of the guide's presence, we can seek solutions to issues confronting us. Guides give us energy to solve problems and inspire us. They challenge us to be better.

Recognizing a guide in your life is an opportunity to grow. It is an honor to have an angel or guide around you, and it is an expression that you are an important part of a universal plan. We are all connected spiritually, whether we are in the physical plane or in the spiritual dimension. A guide is there to be a reminder for us to expand ourselves in a particular area. When this is accomplished, the guide may go away.

A spirit guide is a spiritual gift we should recognize and do our best to understand while they remain with us. They come to us to assist us in this journey we call "life". They are a reminder we are not alone, and they help us cope with issues. The challenge for all of us to accept is that we all must grow and stretch our beliefs to find perfection. Guides are there to nudge us in the right direction.

Embrace the Unknown

To evolve beyond current circumstances, follow our dreams, and listen to spirit (including our spirit guides and angels), we must venture into the unknown. Unfortunately, most of us have some level of fear of the unknown. If we feel the risk is too great or that we might lose what we now have, we won't leave our comfort zone.

You can discover how willing you are to embrace the unknown by noticing how you cross the lower case 't's in your handwriting. The height of the t-bar on the stem indicates your level of fear regarding the unknown.

If most of your t's are crossed near the bottom of the stem, you have a deeply seated fear of the unknown. You keep doing what is familiar or what you see others doing rather than taking control of your life. You miss opportunities for growth when paralyzed by fear.

Are your 't's mostly crossed halfway up the stem? If so, you are not comfortable taking a big leap into the unknown. Instead, you will cautiously, and with a good measure of worry along the way, take small steps forward if the reward is worth the perceived risk.

If you primarily cross your 't's in the upper two-thirds of the stem, you may experience a jolt of fear when contemplating the unknown. Because you know that you have overcome fear in the past, you are willing to set fear aside to push onward and try something new. You may find the challenge exciting.

If most of your 't's are crossed at the very top of the stem or even above it, you face your fears without worrying about all the bad things that might happen. You know that you don't know everything, so you focus on finding out what it takes to move toward your goal. You love the adventure of making new discoveries!

To lessen your fear of the unknown, take a few minutes each day for 30 days to practice crossing t's at the top of the stem, but not above it. This grapho-therapy exercise creates a new neural pathway in your brain that unconsciously helps you eliminate the fear of the unknown. You will eventually move beyond current limitations to discover more than you can even now imagine!
