Organically
shaped sinks -
long and curvy shapes.
Sinks with
multiple functions, more accessories and flexibility.
Larger
sinks with single bowl are getting more popular every year.
Brown
metals - a rainbow of brown metals from
mid to dark colors.
Black - Black is
HUGE!!!
White
- White is still
here and being seen not only in paint, but also in polyester
finishes on cabinetry.
Dark
colors - We are seeing more dark
wood finishes in cabinetry.
Wood
variety -
more authentic wood finishes celebrating unique wood grain and knots and natural
wild grain.
Tile walls - strong
trend for wall coverings.
Light countertops -
sandy, earthy, subtle, casual.
Thicker counters -
anything from 2" to 7"!
More
contemporary and transitional styling, soft, easy to
live with - soft contemporary is very big.
Traditional
alive and well -
traditional styling is alive and well...don't believe all the sleek contemporary
kitchens you see elsewhere.
Earthy
rustic - a new, sort of contemporary,
rustic look.
Green - meaning eco
friendly everything and anything and everywhere. Take care here, as I suspect
one small piece of a product being declared as eco friendly may be valid
marketing material...there's green, and then there's green...find your green
values and then do your research accordingly.
Appliances in various
sizes - huge trend, appliances in various sizes for
any reason, any situation.
Technology in
appliances everywhere...lots of bio
fresh type of technology, keeping food fresher
longer.
Hoods - dynamic,
innovative, interesting kitchen hoods. Lots of HUGE hoods!
Purple - seen in
more quiet, smoky, or somewhat mid tones, not too strong. You'll see it soon if
you haven't already seen it!

On a personal note, my twin
daughter's Kate and Alex turned three in June. I can't believe how fast the
time has flown!!! I feel very fortunate to be able to run my business (with the
help of Jenn!) and have time to stay home with my girls two days a week. I love
being a mom and find at times that being a wife, mother of twins and having my
own business has been challenging - but the rewards have been amazing!!!
We have been doing
some remodeling on our home as well. Basically, I can say my husband Joe has
been busy. The latest (below) is a Tea House for our girls. Even my own
remodeling projects can have there ups and downs. So hang in there
during yours, the rewards will be everlasting!

GREEN CABINETRY OPTIONS

"GREEN" refers primarily to how friendly a product is
to the environment, it can encompass everything from the amount of energy used
to manufacture, how much virgin (vs. recycled) material is consumed and what
the resulting waste stream contains.
A cabinet can be green because it is healthier
for consumers or because it has a low impact on the environment, or because it
is simply more durable. The quality of a product is critical to how long it
will last and therefore how long before it would need to be replaced.
Spacial Design now
offers 7 different lines to suit your cabinetry needs:
Christiana Cabinetry
Jay Rambo Cabinetry
Woodhabor Cabinetry
Aristocratic Cabinetry
Holiday Kitchens Cabinetry
Dura Supreme Cabinetry
Merit Kitchens Cabinetry
We've chosen these lines, because they offer
options that are enviromentally sustainable
Friendly Wood Species
such as Bamboo, Lyptus and Wood Veneers + FSC lumber in Beech, Maple,
Cherry, Poplar, Red and White Oak along with Walnut.
Cabinet Boxes that are
constructed with...Industrial board manufactured from substantial amounts of
recycled material, have no added urea formaldehyde in plywood and MDF cases and
glues, which means it is safe for health and the environment. KCMA
certification - which means products that meet or exceed requirements for
formaldehyde free plywood as well as stain and glaze processes.
Variety of
"Green" Finishes such as, Conversion Varnishes which do not emit any
fumes or gases once it has cured in the factory or hand rubbed colored lineseed
oils.
With all of the lines,
going with a natural finish you are using less VOC's since you are eliminating
the staining process.

NEW PRODUCT OPTIONS
Follow along with Emeril on Siemens' multimedia ventilation
hood. The unit features a 17-inch LCD screen with the options for watching
television and DVDs or listening to music. It is designed for use with electric
or induction cooktops, and features a 600 cfm fan and halogen surface lights
Graceful
yet utilitarian, the Elkay
"Arezzo" adds a modern splash to the Kitchen. At 18" in height, the
faucet accommodates even the tallest items, and then can extend to act
as a
pot filler. A
360-degree swing of both the spout and base make simple work of clean up. The
gliding joystick handle controls water temperature and pressure with
ease.

CFL's

Energy Star Compact
Fluorescent Lamps (CFL's) consume 75 percent less electricity than
incandescent bulbs and last 10 times longer. One CFL can save $30 in energy
costs over its lifetime, reduce coal consumption by 200 pounds, and prevent more
than 400 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.
But sustainability is about
more than using energy efficient products. It also carries a responsibility to
prevent waste of useful materials and to reduce the impact of manufacturing on
the environment. For instance, producing an aluminum can from recycled cans
consumes 95% less energy than making that same can with raw
materials.
I recently read
about a new recycling program for compact florescent light bulbs. They have a
new website www.thinkgreenfromhome.com which
explains the process for recycling the bulbs, and hints at future opportunities
to recycle computers and other home electronics. Check it
out!
