New OPEN KNITTING
Mondays | |
Due to the overwhelmingly successful growth
of the
Wednesday Open Knit, we are adding an alternative Open Knitting session on Mondays from 1-3 pm, every Monday beginning November 28. The exuberance of the Wednesday group has burst the bounds of our capacity to host all who wish to attend on a regular basis. Hopefully this will create two smaller groups rather than one larger group. For this to work, we ask that you limit your attendance to one group per week. Thank you!! |

Greetings!
'Tis the season of wish-lists. In that spirit, here are a few ideas for how to make your own or someone else's holiday dreams come true:
Wish for inspiration? New publications provide patterns galore for hats, gloves, scarves, cowls, bags, shawls and more: - Interweave Knits Special issue Accessories 2011: 42 projects. (Just arrived!)
- Knit Noro Accessories--newly published, showcases Noro yarns' self-striping effects.

- Or, check out our hat tree, and its ever-growing collection of knitted head-gear.
Wish to make a merry and bright holiday for a fellow knitter or crocheter? - Fancy handmade stitch markers make everyday knitting special--Fimo sheep, kitties, and frogs (...rip-it...); beaded "Candy Drops"; or recycled aluminum rings with beads.
- Knitter's Block: soft panels for blocking knitwear that fit together like a big puzzle. Set comes in a carrying case.
- Addi Clicks needle cases: for knitters who acquired a Click set before these compact envelope-style cases became available.
- Ball winders and umbrella swifts--for managing unruly hanks and skeins.
- Fiber Spheres--keep yarn tangle-free and clean while you knit.
- My Little Knitting Book: a knitting reference that's smaller than a checkbook, but filled with
 | | Bags, bags, bags |
handy information, plus charts to keep track of your personal knitting needle inventory. - Page-a-day calendars including the 100+ Patterns 2012 Knitting Calendar and the Vogue Knitting Stitch-a-day Calendar
- Stylish and quirky bags of every size and shape to hold all different kinds of projects: The Knit'n Walk bag has a loop for hanging from your wrist. Its pyramid shape allows it to stand on a table or at your feet without collapsing. More bags and baskets come from Nantucket, Lantern Moon, Namaste, and others.
Wish to get a young person hooked on yarn crafts?
Simple gadgets can still provide loads of fun! | Potholder Loom
|
- The classic Potholder Loom from Harrisville Designs includes supplies for 6 potholders. Refill bags of cotton loopers are also available. (See Mason Dixon Knitting for how to knit with these, too!)
- Knitting Boards: A great activity for parents or grandparents to share with a child--kits, books, and looms for making scarves, bags, and socks.
- Needle Felting kits and supplies--for older youth and adults.
- Pom-pom Maker--makes it easy to crank out fuzzy balls for embellishing hats and toys.

Wish to give a handmade gift--made by someone other than yourself? We also offer:
- Hats and mittens made from felted
and recycled woolen knitwear. - Crocheted bottle-toppers from Lantern Moon--snowflakes and snow people, Santas or candy canes.
- Handmade soaps and lotion bars, with natural ingredients and scents.

Can you get a scarf out of that?

Fans of the popular but hard-to-come-by Katia Triana will be happy to learn that we just received the first shipment of our order for a nearly identical yarn: Marina. While supplies last, get it in black and cream.
Meanwhile, check out:
- Park Avenue: it looks like you cast on a few hundred stitches--but it's only 3.

- Autumn: wooden beads are already strung onto this yarn, plus some cloth leaf embellishments. Comes with a free pattern for a two-skein shawlette.

| Sample Spotlight | | "Those are ALL my favorite colors!"
So said Kathleen's 6-year-old grand-daughter when she spotted some Lorna's Laces hand-dyed yarn in a basket at grandma's house. What more encouragement could a grandmother need? Kathleen unraveled the abandoned project attached to the yarn and quickly re-purposed it into the Girls' One-Button Cardigan (Knitting Pure and Simple pattern) over Thanksgiving weekend. "Granted, two football games were involved," she said. "But I didn't feel like I was knitting ALL the time. It's a quick, fun knit." The yarn is Shepherd Worsted. So yes, you DO still have time to knit a sweater (or two) before December 25th!
