Greetings!

With the arrival of spring, the urge to reduce comes over many of us (in more ways than one...)

The time-honored ritual of spring-cleaning leads to many a rummage sale. Now here's your chance to reach the best possible market for your no-longer loved or needed knitting stuff and earn knitch store credit at the same time.

We're calling it the great Customer Garage Sale--even though we don't have a garage. If you don't have anything to sell, you can shop for treasures and bargains from your fellow fiber enthusiasts.

The May class schedule is posted......Take a look see!!!!

Save the Dates:

  • May 22-29:  We will collect items you want to sell. Start setting them aside now. Accepted items include yarn, knitting and crocheting books/booklets, needles/hooks, and knitting/crocheting-related accessories. We will include full details in the next newsletter about how to  participate.
  • May 30-June 1: Absolutely No collections taken so we can organize and set up the Garage Sale.
  • June 2-4: Shop the Garage Sale during our regular business hours.

Be sure to keep reading your newsletter, because we will be bringing you WEEKLY COUPON SPECIALS from now on through the summer months.

If you miss a newsletter, or want to look back at an article, you can now access archived copies of "back issues" on the News and Events  page of our website.

FACEBOOK Fans: We will be posting to our Facebook page regularly. You can help make it an exciting place to be by leaving a comment, making a review, or starting a thread. (Find the link at left, above.)Thanks!

Comfort Knitting
PB&J Stands for Pals Bring Joy

In a world with so many big problems, what can one person do to make a difference?

Ask Robbie Rose, knitch friend and the founder of Pals Bring Joy, a new local organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children who must spend extended time away from their families while undergoing cancer treatment in one particular ward at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee.

She says, "With only 24 beds, I figure we can keep up with providing things for the kids who rotate through." Depending on how many donations PB&J gets, the hope is to someday be able to expand to other wards in the same hospital, or beyond.

"We especially need knitted and crocheted toys," Robbie says. "The toys are like new friends for these kids. They are like little buddies that help the children get through their treatments." Each child has a caseworker who selects from the donated items the things the child will find most comforting, depending on age, need, and interests.

Robbie and former knitch instructor Gail McGuire stopped in this week--along with their mascots Peanut Butter the Bear and Jelly the Doll--to tell us that the PB&J website is up and running. If you are interested in knitting comfort items for children, the site tells you everything you need to know.

Please direct all questions to PB&J.

Fantastic Fish Follow-up

Not long ago, Mary Jo Martinek brought in

this 6-fish panel and told us it would eventually be joined with many other identical panels in a knitted rendition of M.C. Escher's Fish Tessellation.Escher Fish

This week--over 90 fish later--she brought in the finished blanket.

A tour-de-force of both knitting AND sewing, each fish is worked individually and stitched edge-to-edge with its neighbor.
