January and February
CLASS HIGHLIGHTS

Once the holiday flurry has passed, what better time than to settle in for some serious sweater knitting?

Our January/February roster includes sweater classes in a new, expanded format. These classes meet 5 times over the course of 8 weeks.

The class sessions will focus on pattern interpretation, techniques, and troubleshooting. On your weeks "off", you'll have time to put some rows behind you on the way to the next potentially sticky transition point.

The Einstein Coat . This ever popular coat is a favorite with many knitters: it knits up quickly using only the knit stitch and bulky weight yarn. The finished coat is both casual and elegant. You will need a copy of Sally Melville's Book 1: the Knit Stitch.  Tuesdays, 9-11 (Jan 11, 25, Feb 8, 22, Mar 1) with Anne.

The "Not Just For Men" Sweater (for him OR her/you). The pattern is called "Forks in the Road" (look for it on ravelry!) and found in Guy Knits. But both Sue and Kathleen think it would look great on ladies. You can knit separate pieces or in the round using aran weight yarns. This will surely become your "go-to sweater!"  Saturdays, 10-12 (Jan 8, 15, 29, Feb 12, 26) with Sue B.

The Guernsey Skirt is another offering that will be knit over a month of classes. The pattern can be found in Simple Style and sports an updated look combining seed stitch and simple cables with a worsted weight yarn. Tuesdays Jan 18, Feb 1 and 15th with Anne.

The Split-Neck T sweater is a similar option using a simple Knitting Pure and Simple pattern knit completely in the round from the top down. No seams! Yay! Jenni and  Sue are both working on their second one! Thursday evenings Feb 3, 10 and 24 with Jenni.

NEW, Returning, and Revisioned:

Fearless Lace scarfFearless Lace: Now for ALL SKILL LEVELS. Class project is a lace sampler scarf, designed by Sue B.  which offers a choice of at least 6 different lace patterns to learn.

Depending on your skill, preference, or nerve, select one, two, or all! The photo shows a detail of the scarf. See it in real life at the shop for the full effect.  Class meets Friday afternoons.

Finishing Workshop: Sat, Feb 26, with Christi. Take just 3 hours to improve your knitting for a lifetime. Well-finished projects start when you cast on--or even before, as in choosing the right yarn for your pattern, and deciding which size to make.  Class will involve lots of hands-on practice--a little knitting homework is required. Details provided with registration.

Gloves: it's just a mitten with 5 thumbs-but you don't have to feel like you're all that while you're making a pair. Wed. afternoons, with Christi.

Resoleable socks: Also called "re-treads" and "moccasin socks", this unique sock design has intrigued knitters ever since it first appeared in Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac almost 40 years ago. Are you a sock knitter who's looking for an adventure? Class meets Wednesday afternoons with Christi.

Ringwood Hat and Mitten set: A simple textured stitch elevates these accessories from ordinary to interesting. You'll want to try it on socks, too, once you've got your head and hands covered.Thursday evenings, with Jenni.

Roving Hat: Knit a warm and colorful hat using wool in its pre-yarn state with fiber artist Susan F., who paints the hand-dyed rovings you'll use in class. The fact that this class is only one session long is a clue to how fast this project will go. Mon, Feb 24

Swatch Book: Sue B. will inspire you with ideas for how to use the interesting stitch patterns you see in knitting reference books, known variously as swatch books, stitch dictionaries, stitch pattern collections, etc. You can use them to personalize your knitting and be your own designer. Friday afternoons.

See the class schedule for a complete listing*. All the old favorites are on offer: Beginners, Crochet, Next Step Knitting with Barb, how to make socks all different ways, basic and fancy mittens, Knitting for Kids, Log Cabin Knitting, and more.

*Not all the description links are active yet, so check back later in the month for more details and project photos. Many class samples are on display in the shop.
