Knitter's Review of "Caged Cashmere"

Knitter's Review is an on-line resource for anyone who is curious about yarn in general, and about specific yarns in particular.

Clara Parkes, author of The Knitter's Book of Yarn, does in-depth studies of how various yarns knit-up, wash, and wear. You can search past reviews by fiber, manufacturer, and/or gauge.

The featured yarn this month is Schulana Cashmere Moda. (8 colors available at knitch) After reading Clara's review, Mary cast on for some lace-trimmed red wristers and reports that she loves working with this unusual and luxurious yarn. Her pattern, however, will not allow her to get away with using just one ball...

Two-Way Cravat

Two Way Cravat

Here's a one-skein project
inspired by a stitch pattern that came to us from the makers of the Knit Kit. It makes an interesting texture on both sides--the angled side is shown in the photo. The reverse is bumpy-pebbly. Wear it one way today, the other tomorrow.

Mary used one skein of Big Baby chunky alpaca and size 15 needles. Gauge is not important.

NOTE: Slip the first stitch of every row knitwise throughout.

Cast on 15 sts.

Rows 1-4: Knit

Row 5:
Slip 1, *knit the second st on the left needle but do not remove. Knit the first st and drop both worked sts off the left needle. Rpt from * to end of row.

Row 6: Slip 1, *purl the second st on the left needle but do not remove. Purl the first st and drop both worked sts off the left needle. Rpt from * to end of row.

Repeat rows 5 and 6 until about 2 yards of yarn remain.

Repeat rows 1-4.
Bind off and weave in ends.
