What additional information should I know?
- It is best to begin HypnoBirthing® in the 2nd trimester so that the birth mom & her companion have time to learn the HypnoBirthing® techniques in class and have time to practice them at home.
- Four 2- hour classes are held for the Birth Mom & the Birth Companion. The course includes the book, HypnoBirthing® The Mongan Method, the Rainbow Relaxation CD and course handouts.
- Classes are held at: Rochester CNY Healing Arts, 2244 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14610.

The HypnoBirthing® Advantage - HypnoBirthing® offers the following:
- An opportunity for the birth mom to use slow, deep breathing techniques that enable her to breathe in a manner that allows her body to work in neuromuscular harmony with her baby.
- An opportunity to reduce the length of labor, the need for medication or medical intervention, and reduce fatigue for the birth mom so that she has more energy for labor.
- Creating an active role for the birth companion.
- Through utilizing HypnoBirthing® techniques, a peaceful birth allows for quicker bonding between mom, baby and birth companion, and thus, fosters a rapid postnatal recovery for the birth mom.
- It returns birthing to the beautiful, peaceful experience that nature intends.

What Will I Learn?
- Breathing techniques that allow the birth mom to feel relaxed and reduce fear and tension, and thus, reduce pain during childbirth.
-Relaxation & visualization techniques for the birth mom so that she can develop confidence in herself to achieve a calm & comfortable state of body & mind during childbirth.
- The birth companion will learn verbal & touch prompts to promote the birth mom through a peaceful labor & delivery.
- How to create a Birth Plan so that the birth companion serves as an advocate for the mom during labor - knowing in advance what will make her comfortable and what medical intervention(s) she may or may not want during labor.
- An understanding of the birth process so that the birth mom and her companion will be prepared for their baby's "birth day."

"My dream is that every woman, everywhere, will know the joy of a truly safe, comfortable and satisfying birthing for herself and her baby."
- Marie Mongan, M.Ed., M.Hy., Founder of HypnoBirthing®

Why are hypnosis techniques used during HypnoBirthing®?
Hypnosis is a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration - a state of mind and body in which we communicate suggestions to our subconscious mind. Many of us go into a "hypnotic" state when we daydream or when we are engrossed in reading a really good book or when staring into a fire. Anyone who uses hypnosis is very relaxed, aware of his or her surroundings, is able to speak and is in good spirits.

When the birth mom uses hypnosis, she is completely relaxed and is aware of her uterine contractions and is able to experience them without feeling unbearable pain. She uses a "mind over matter" approach so that she is able to communicate completely with her baby during labor & delivery. As a result of using hypnotic relaxation techniques, the birth mom will be calm and energized throughout her baby's birth, and thus, experience a quicker post-natal recovery. HypnoBirthing® helps to ensure a peaceful birth for both mom & baby.
