Nutrition for Fertility
With all of the summer holidays lately, it seems like everyone is taking advantage of the opportunity to gather and share a meal. This is a great way to reconnect with friends and family members. However, if you are focusing on eating whole and nourishing foods, eating typical cookout foods can be challenging. During the month of July, we are focusing on Nutrition for Fertility, and we have some great ideas for you. You can have all the fun of a family get-together, while keeping your healthy eating promises to yourself.
We know that sticking to your healthy goals can be challenging, especially when you are coping with PCOS. The one way to ensure a healthy meal wherever you are is to plan! If you don't know when you will be able to eat, make sure you have a nice healthy meal before you leave the house and bring something to snack on. Dark leafy greens, protein, and fruit are great options to keep you energized and satisfied. Maybe throw a few apples, bananas, or nuts in your bag whenever you leave the house. That way, when you arrive at your destination you won't be famished and reach for the closest snack (usually cookies, pretzels, or chips!). Another way to take control of your eating while out with friends is to bring a dish to pass. A large bean salad or some similar healthy protein dish that will keep you satisfied, while enabling you to participate in the festivities. Make sure to call ahead to plan for whatever theme the meal is, and bring enough to pass! We have a few great recipes to get you started with your healthy and conscious eating. And on Saturday, July 23rd, 1-3pm we are offering a FREE workshop on Nutrition for Fertility at our Syracuse CNY Healing Arts Center. Details here

Secondary Infertility:
Is it affecting you?
Secondary infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant or to carry a full-term pregnancy after having had one or more children without trouble before. This means that you did not use any assisted reproductive technologies or fertility medications when conceiving your existing child/children. Secondary infertility requires a unique method of support, separate from general infertility support. Emotions associated with the experience of secondary infertility often include a mix of:
·Anger, Guilt, Worry, Depression, Loss, Grief, Confusion, Isolation, Jealousy, Powerlessness, Self-blame Many parents feel guilty for wanting another child so badly, especially if they already have more than one child. This guilt is entirely misplaced; you can absolutely love your existing child/children, but still yearn for more kids - it doesn't have to be one or the other. Unfortunately, couples with secondary infertility tend to receive less support from friends and family than couples who were never able to conceive. This happens because couples who already have one or more children do not have a visible loss to explain their grief, whereas couples who have no children are evidently lacking the family they wish for. We at CNY Fertility know how difficult it is to deal with what could have been and what actually is, which is why we encourage you to seek support throughout your struggles. Lisa Stack, Support Coordinator at CNY Fertility Centers, is available to assist you in any way that you may need. Please feel free to contact her (information below) and work through your unique situation. Lisa Stack Lstack@cnyfertility.com 315-744-8073
