ESU shocked by Chilean student repression

BUCHAREST - The European Students' Union (ESU) is shocked that the Chilean students have faced threats, intimidation and violence during their fight for reforms in higher education. Allan Päll, Chairperson of ESU, said: "ESU believes in the rights of students to shape their future without being pressured, threatened or targeted with violence." Around 50.000 Chilean students took the streets of Santiago on 25 April.

New ESU Chairperson elected at 62nd Board Meeting in Bucharest

BUCHAREST - Karina Ufert from Lithuania was elected as the new Chairperson 2012-2013 of the European Students' Union (ESU) on 22 April in Bucharest. Ufert: "Only by making the right choices and prioritising education, we can get Europe out of the crisis in a socially and economically sustainable way." Student exchanges FINST project successfully completed

TALLINN - The last out of three FinSt student exchanges, took place in Tallinn from 2 to 14 of April. The exchange is part of the Financing the Students' Future project from the European Students' Union (ESU). ESU's Estonian members, EUL, hosted six delegates from Scotland, Wales, France, Poland, Hungary and Luxembourg in snowy Estonia.Go to full article

Cuts in social support force Portuguese students to leave education

LISBON - Thousands of students in Portugal are forced to drop out of the education system because of economic reasons. Since September 2011, more than 5000 students have left higher education in Portugal, a number that shows clearly that injustice is rising in one of the countries with low higher education rates in Europe.
