| Bologna Process in Turkey yet to become reality | |
ISTANBUL - Although significant changes have already taken place or are on their way, a lot remains to be done concerning Bologna Process reforms in Turkey. In recent years, Turkey has seen a rapid expansion of number of students and a doubling in the number of higher education institutions. This has had a big influence on the situation of the higher education system in Turkey today. The fast increase of students has also given a boost to the implementation of the Bologna Process. EP wants investments in higher education to be priority

BRUSSELS - On 12 May 2011, the European Parliament adopted its report on the Europe 2020 flagship initiative 'Youth on the Move'. Many of the additional priorities which were suggested by the European Students' Union (ESU) were adopted in the report. The report calls upon member states and the European Commission to give priority to financing of higher education, and stresses that no more cuts should be done in education budgets. Read more

BRUSSELS - The European Students' Union (ESU) has published its response to the consultation of the European Commission's Green Paper dubbed From Challenges to Opportunities: Towards a Common Strategic Framework for EU Research and Innovation funding, on 27 May. The Green Paper proposes major changes to EU research and innovation funding to make participation easier, increase scientific and economic impact and provide better value for money. Read more

ESU's Board gives green light to 11 external motions
| TALLINN - During the 60th Board Meeting of the European Students' Union (ESU) in Tallinn, several external motions on burning issues in higher education were adopted by the representatives from national students' unions from all over Europe. The delegates furthermore criticised the slow progress of the Bologna Process in a statement adopted during the event which took place from 5 to 7 May. Read more

Students keen on renewed commitment to Bologna Process
| BRUSSELS - The European Students Union (ESU), representing 45 national unions of students from 38 European countries, sees an "increasing lack of commitment to fulfilling even the simplest Bologna goals" and asks for minimum standards to be met in order to have a truly comparable and flexible education system across Europe. ESU calls for equality on day against homophobia

BRUSSELS - The International day Against Homophobia, which took place on 17 May, highlighted the fact that Europe is still divided as to accepting LGBTQ students as an integrated part of European society. The European Students' Union (ESU) thinks that efforts at making this division less obvious should be maintained or initiated where they do not yet exist as ESU strongly supports equal opportunities for all, regardless of their sexual orientation. European Students' Union elects new Chairperson
| TALLINN - Allan Päll (25) from Estonia has been elected as the new Chairperson of the European Students' Union (ESU) on 5 May in Tallinn. "My biggest priority will be the issue of funding in higher education. We will support our members in their fight for maintaining and increasing investment in higher education". Read more

Call for Quality Assurance Experts' pool
| BRUSSELS - The European Students' Union (ESU) is looking for students to join the Quality Assurance experts' pool. You can apply for this by filling in the application form which you can find here.
