Music Notes - Sunday, April 29
| |
Gentle shepherd, lead us. We see the shepherd theme brought to light this week as we explore John 10 and the 23rd Psalm. Our hymns and anthems will echo this as we hear "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," and "Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us." Soloists will sing "The Shepherd Psalm" by Carter. Our Children's Choirs will sing "Feed My Lambs" by Sleeth at the 11:00 Traditional service. The New Life Singers will also bring a bit of gospel and connect to the cross theme that will be discussed in the sermon when they sing "Praise His Holy Name" by Hampton. The Chancel Choir will sing "The Lord Is My Shepherd" which is the 3rd movement of Adolphus Hailstork's work "I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes." This wonderful setting of the 23rd Psalm combines jazz, gospel, blues, and classical into one very exciting piece. Finally, Kiley Watson will follow the sermon with the old hymn "There's Room at the Cross." We pray that you are led by the good shepherd this week in worship.

Cynthia McGough invites all women of VHUMC (members, guests, and staff) to join her Friday May 11. We will meet outside the Lighthouse at 8:00 and return at 2:00 pm. To register, please email Patti Eggers at peggers@vhumc.org by May 4.
Birmingham Hospitality Network Thank You!!!
Many thanks to everyone who served with love and hospitality as VHUMC hosted families in our building last week. You really helped make the families feel at home.
Kairos Thank You!
A hearty THANK YOU to everyone who baked cookies and prayed for the participants from the VHUMC men who led the Kairos weekend at Donaldson Correctional Facility last weekend. It was an incredibly meaningful weekend filled with spiritual growth for both the participants and leaders. Please to continue to pray for this important ministry.
Food Pantry
Please continue to donate food items for the VHUMC Food Pantry ministry. Our shelves are bare again and our money is running out. It takes 1,360 items each week to serve our 80 families. We need canned items, boxed items, and fresh oranges, apples, potatoes, and carrots. If you have ideas for donations, would like more information, or want to find out how you can volunteer, call Barbara Porter at 444-9793.
Box Tops for Education
Please cut and save box tops for education from products that carry the designation. Fran Wells gathers these and delivers them to Jackson Elementary School. This program earns valuable money for much-needed supplies. VHUMC partners with Jackson in a variety of outreach efforts. The drop box is located on the wall outside Tyson Hall.
Oak Mountain Mission
Oak Mountain Mission needs children's school clothing and uniforms. Linens and kitchen items are always needed. These items can be dropped off in the wooden bins around VHUMC. For furniture pick-up, please call 685-5757.
