WEEKLY UPDATE | July 27 2010

Dear Church,

This is the day that the LORD has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it!

Where has God been moving in your life this season? Spend some time over the next month sharing God's work in your life with a friend or two, you may be surprised at how encouraging it is.

Here is some news from our community.
Missional communities and life groups | weekly

Our church is gathered into neighborhood collectives called missional communities. The purpose of these proximity based groups is to be regularly serving and loving our neighbors, caring for one another, and promoting justice in ways that clearly show the love and character of Jesus.

Each missional community develops practical project-based ways to meet the needs of others by encouraging individuals to use their gifts, talents and abilities to create and implement projects around our neighborhoods in Brooklyn. We also come together once a month to worship, pray, and celebrate what God has been doing through these projects. We invite you to join one of these groups near you.

The life groups associated with each missional community meet weekly to read and discuss scripture, have a time of confession and sharing of real struggles, and pray together for one another and for others. To find the life group meeting nearest you, contact Kristen.

There are two missional communities in Brooklyn:

Park Slope MC
meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM (next meeting August 4th) at Grace United Methodist Church, 33 7th Avenue at St. John. Contact Caleb for more information.

Boerum Hill MC
meets the first Thursday of the month (next meeting August 5th) at 274 Dean Street, Apt. D. at 7:30. Contact Kristen for more information.

Next session is  Monday, August 2nd 7PM

TGC Brooklyn Office: 506 5th Avenue, Buzzer #4 (between 12th and 13th Streets in Park Slope.)

There are many reasons people choose not to believe in God or follow the way of Jesus and the way of the Christian faith. Some of the reasons lie in our will and some of the reasons lie in our minds. If we are honest most of us entertain serious doubts at some stage of our life about the existence of God and the reliability of the tenets of Christianity. Instead of ignoring these doubts or pretending they don't exist, we want to have a time where we can discuss them in a thoughtful way to discern whether the way of faith or the way of doubt or something in between should have our confidence.

This is an open forum which is an opportunity for those of all backgrounds and faiths to come and present objections to the Christian faith. We will do our best to proceed through the most pressing objections with orderly but lively discussion and debate. All opinions and ideas are welcome, so please invite your neighbors, coworkers and friends.

Mid-Year Giving Statements | update your address

We sent out mid-year giving statements two weeks ago. If you believe you should have received one but did not, it's probably because our record of your address is incomplete or inaccurate.

Please change your address in our system by logging in here (or make a new account).

Or, contact Cliff with any questions regarding your statement.

Praying Together | join us

Please join us before the service on Sunday at 3:45 in the classroom just behind the sanctuary for prayer.

If you have a prayer request, send it to Kristen and she will pass it to our team of intercessors.

Let us know how we can serve you this week
We'd love to get to know you better. Please contact any one of us with your needs or concerns.

Peace.
