Store Open Today and Book Signings This Week

Usually when we have a great array of exciting events in the course of a couple of weeks, we send out a little extra Newsletter to keep you all up to date on the latest and greatest here at Visible Voice Books.  This month we're doing something slightly different...

February 2012 Visible Voice *Love Letter*

And now for some VERY EXCITING NEWS!:

Our first bit of lovely and exciting news...  CNN is coming to your favorite local bookstore this Thursday the 9th to interview staff about the Cash Mob that swept Cleveland a couple months back!  Come share in the lovefest with us: Show up from 2-4pm to show your support for your neighborhood bookstore and listen to Michael Bay play some tunes.

A note on an exciting upcoming event:

Regina Brett's Discussion and Book Signing of "Be the Miracle" on February 10th will be hosted at Pilgrim Church, located at 2592 West 14th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44113, not at the bookstore.

After the presentation from 7-9pm, come back to the store for a Sip to Support wine tasting! The $15 tasting benefits The Gathering Place (touchedbycancer.org).

There will also  be some great art by our ArtWalk Artist of the month, Native Clevelander Grace Elisabeth Frank.

**Read more about Regina and Grace on our Events Page!**

And now, drum roll, please... Visible Voice Celebrates Five Years!

Do you know what February 14th is? Yes, we know it's Valentines Day, but the real major holiday on the 14th is The Visible Voice Store Anniversary Date. That's right...Visible Voice Books turns 5 this year on Valentines Day.

We are really proud to have served the Tremont/Cleveland community over the last five years. We  want to thank all of our  customers for your patronage and your good will. Without you we are just an empty shell filled with books. From the beginning the idea was to have a store reflect the tastes, interests and book picks of the store staff and customer base. Furthermore, we wanted to challenge and expand our customers' viewpoints and literary tastes. On these points we have succeeded spectacularly. Visible Voice Books represents the best collection of literature we have been able to collect. It's a reflection of all of us. That has been our greatest accomplishment over the last five years. For that we say Thank You.

And as a thank you, we're doing our Five Year Anniversary Giveaway.  That's right, five sets of five free gifts from us to you.  Here's the deal:

*The first five people in the store, starting at noon on February 14th and lasting all week, will receive a free Visible Voice T-Shirt.

*The next five people will get a buy-one get-one-free glass of wine.

*The next five: a $5 Visible Voice Gift Card.

*The following five, free signup for our Loyalty Program (usually $10 - gets you a $10 gift card for every $100 spent in the store).

*And then of course, the greatest gift of all, the fifth set of five in the store get... free unsolicited opinions on your favorite books, by Visible Voice staff! (You know we had to go there...)

That's five sets of five giveaways, i.e. the first 25 people in the store starting at opening on our Anniversary get a special thanks.  That's our love letter to you.

UPCOMING EVENTS in the WINTER MUSIC SERIES:

**We're certainly enjoying keeping warm with the hot beats of our Winter Music Series.  Come check out our February musicians below, and see who else we have coming up here!**

February 11, 2012 | 7-9pm: Mike Uva

Mike Uva writes inventive, highly melodic, classic pop songs about loneliness, travel, and strange visions. His subtle, restrained style has been compared to that of Paul Simon and Ray Davies and he once had someone call his music "a plush carpeted dream." Mike has performed with such artists as Cat Power, The Decemberists, Nina Nastasia, and Clem Snide.  On this date, Uva will be backed by his jazzy trio, which featues pianist Mike Lyford, bassist Matthew Charboneau, and drummer Tony Cross.  "Every couple of years, Cleveland songwriter Mike Uva tosses off an album of sublime jangle pop, tangled with wry, self-observant lyrics, melancholy chord progressions and encased in warmly lo-fi production values."  --PopMatters.com

February 24, 2012 | 7-9pm:  Brian Straw

Brian Straw seemed to pop up from nowhere around the time that the late Nineties made their last stand against the encroachment of the then-new millenium.  Given his musical choices, this Indiana native found himself in a unique musical place: a singer-songwriter placed squarely in the middle of the experimental and often noisy underground Cleveland scene of that era.  So what happened was that Straw combined his somber songs -- sometimes compared to Mark Kozelek (Sun Kil Moon, Red House Painters) and Richard Buckner -- with layers of effects that ranged from percussive to abrasive.  With this combination of avant-garde and traditional, Brian Straw's released a wide array of music, whether as a solo artist, or with the bands Six Parts Seven and Buried Wires. In addition to performing, he currently helps to curate events at West Side art / performance space, Survival Kit.

Come check out some of our live tunes!

That's all for now.  Thanks for a wonderful first five years.

Cheers!
