Once in a Lifetime Student Trip to Israel
June 18-30, 2013
Open to current Rosary & Servite Students!
June 18-30, 2013
Five years ago, in the spring of 1998, Mr. Chris Weir and Mr. Joe Swoboda, along with twenty-five other Catholic High School teachers from the Los Angeles, Orange, and Fresno Dioceses, were hosted by the Los Angeles Jewish Federation to a two week trip to the Holy Land.
In return for the trip they were to teach a one week course to Servite students over the next four years. This course is called, "The Holy Land Democracy Project."
The goals of this program are to build awareness of Israel as the Christian Holy Land, and of Israel as both a homeland for Jews and a modern democracy. Catholic teachers throughout Los Angeles and Orange County participate in the program.
Rosary High School has had several teachers also participate in the Holy Land Democracy Project. We are delighted both to be working with Rosary Theology Teacher Mrs. Maureen Tunstill and that Rosary's Principal, Annette Zaleski, will accompany us!
After Chris and Joe finished their fourth year of teaching the HLDP, they knew the next step was to take students to the Holy Land.
Students: There will be a Pilgrimage Interest meeting just for students at lunch on Tuesday, October 9th in room 204.
Parents/Students: To learn more about this amazing opportunity for your son please join us for an Information Night on Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:30pm in the Servite Library!
If you would like more information about the trip before the info night please contact Mr. Joe Swoboda at jswoboda@servitehs.org or Mr. Chris Weir at cweir@servitehs.org.

Congrats to our talented team!

The tournament featured over 100 student debaters from eleven different Orange County high schools. In the Lincoln-Douglas Debate section, Servite students Richard Dunn '15 and Nicholas Crossan '16 placed 1st and 2nd, respectively, with Gregory Jenn '14 receiving Honorable Mention. The September/October Lincoln-Douglas Debate topic as established by the National Forensics League is as follows: "Resolved: The United States ought to extend to non-citizens accused of terrorism the same constitutional due process protections it grants to citizens." Student are required to make arguments in both the affirmative and the negative during the different debate rounds. Way to go Servite! |

Parent Formation Meeting
Please join us, Tuesday October 9th
Our next Parent Formation Meeting is Tuesday, October 9, from 7:00-9:00 in the Servite Theater. Based on feedback received at our last meeting in August, we will be focusing on the topic of technology - both the seriousness of its effects as well as practical, hands-on tools and best practices to implement at home. Our panel of experts will include:
· Mr. Peter Aguero, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (MFTI). Mr. Aguero will be speaking to the entire student body later this month on the reality of technology and pornography addiction.
· Mr. Dave Swanson, Servite parent and certified specialist in criminal law. Mr. Swanson will be speaking to the senior class later this month on the various legal ramifications of turning 18, including technology misuse.
· Mr. Stephen Walswick, Director of Educational Technology at Servite. Mr. Walswick has prepared a plethora of resources and practical, hands-on "how-tos" to assist parents in maintaining a safe technological environment at home.
Please don't miss this important meeting. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Fan Gear Store & Trinity Corp
Enfuso Oil
Trinity Corp, in partnership with the Kitchen and Enfuso Oil, are introducing an exclusive Servite labeled product which is a smoked extra virgin olive oil and flavor infused balsamic vinegars that are great for cooking and taste amazing. These products bottled exclusively for us by Enfuso are a natural extension of our "from scratch and healthy eating" philosophy of the Kitchen. We are currently using the oils and vinegars in our daily cooking and the response from the school community has been overwhelmingly positive. We will debuting it at the Servite Fashion show on October 14th and it can be bought at the Campus Store or online under the exclusives tab. The fresh kitchen would like to announce that every other Friday will now be smoothie day. Remember that the food is always fresh and homemade. For your convenience the fresh grill is open during the school week and is located on the Holy Founders Procession. The Campus Store is featuring a new ladies t-shirt and an expanded line of clothing dedicated to our female fans with a logo dedicated just to them. Did you know that every Servite Sport has a special section dedicated to them? Flags, mugs, hoodies, caps and more. Stop in soon to check it out.

Think Pink!
Have you made your pledge yet?
Have you made your pledge yet for The "Score for a Cure" campaign? This offers fans the opportunity to pledge a donation of $1-$5 for each point Servite Varsity football scores during the month of October (4 Games). All money donated will be given to St. Jude's Memorial Foundation and the Pink Ribbon Club Foundation. In addition to making your pledge, this night will also give fans an opportunity to place names of loved ones battling with cancer or those who may have left this world, on a list that will be used in masses offered at the National Shrine of St. Peregrine in Chicago. St. Peregrine is the patron saint for cancer patients.
If you have any questions or would like to get involved please contact club advisor Zach Reeder at zreeder@servitehs.org. We look forward to seeing you at the game on the 26th!
