This Community Forum is being hosted by APIPA, the CRS contractor, and AHCCCS to answer questions families may have about the change in location for the Phoenix MSIC (multi-specialty interdisciplinary clinic) that will take place late 2012. There will be an opportunity for participation by phone.

Information Session on new CRS Model

AHCCCS and St. Luke's Health Initiatives (SLHI) will be sharing information gleaned from healthcare providers and families about the CRS, Children's Rehabilitative Services system. The information was gathered by SLHI and Raising Special Kids to assist AHCCCS with implementing an integrated model, providing both acute care and specialty care services, for children who receive services from CRS.
The event will provide an overview of consumer and provider feedback, and offer an opportunity for families, providers and advocates to give additional comments on the proposed model. Representatives from St. Luke's Health Initiatives and AHCCCS will answer questions and take comments. Spanish translation is available.
School-choice option for disabled students upheld by court
A Maricopa County Superior Court judge ruled Wednesday that a scholarship program for disabled students, in which parents get a debit card to pay for education services with state funds, does not violate the Arizona Constitution, as opponents had argued.

Legislative Developments
2nd Regular Session of the 50th Legislature:
Monday, January 30th was the deadline for Senate bills to be introduced.
Monday, February 6th marks the deadline for House bills
Looking ahead at the 28th day of the session- 1294 bills have been introduced.
Items to Watch:
SB 1047 (tax credit; school tuition), establishes a tax credit for contributions to be used for scholarships for students with disabilities, will be heard in the House Ways and Means Committee, House Room 1, February 6 at 2PM.
SB 1048 (school tuition organizations: credits; administrative purpose), expands the list of students who may receive educational scholarships to those enrolled in preschool programs for students with disabilities, will also be heard in the House Ways and Means Committee, House Room 1, February 6 at 2PM.
SB 1250 (health insurance; interstate purchase) the "anti-insurance mandate" bill the Governor vetoed last year, will be heard in Senate Banking and Insurance on Tuesday, February 7 at 2PM.
New Bills of Special Interest:
HB 2706 (third grade promotions; exemptions). Sponsor is Representative Yee. This bill removes the parental choice to be exempt from "move on when reading" and instead requires that the pupil demonstrate on a student portfolio reading at grade level.
SB 1258 (third grade promotions; exceptions). Sponsor is Senator Crandall. This bill removes the parental choice exemption from "move on when reading."
SB 1261 (preschool programs; charter schools). Sponsor is Senator Crandall. This bill authorizes charter schools to provide a preschool program for children with disabilities.
SB 1462 (schools bullying policies; definition). Sponsor is Senator Shapira. This bill defines bullying to include electronic communications, and requires charter schools to have policies and procedures prohibiting bullying.
