Replacement for Affordable Care Act? (ACA)
As the ACA comes under debate in the Supreme Court, lawmakers have acknowledged that they are preparing an overhaul on health care, in case the high court rules against its constitutionality. The ruling is expected to be handed down in June. Read more from The Washington Times.

Ideology or Rule of Law?

New Poll Finds Most Americans Expect Supreme Court to Base Their Ruling on the Health Reform Law on Ideological Views Rather Than Interpretation of the Law

The January Kaiser Health Tracking Poll shows most Americans (59 percent) expect the Supreme Court Justices to base their ruling on ideological views rather than their interpretation of the law (28 percent). The individual mandate to have health insurance continues to be unpopular with the public (67 percent unfavorable versus 30 percent favorable).  54 percent of Americans say the Court should rule the individual mandate unconstitutional and expect the Justices to find it unconstitutional.  But, the public does not expect the entire law to go away if the Supreme Court rules against the mandate - 55 percent believe that parts of the health reform law will still be implemented even if the Court strikes it down.

Quality of Life: Children With Intellectual Disability and the Siblings' Perspectives  A study in the January issue of Journal of Intellectual Disability Research by researchers affiliated with Ghent University (Belgium) examined quality of life from a sibling, rather than a family perspective, using in-depth interviews. Authors report that siblings' definitions of quality of life differ from a family quality of life concept. Full text is available at no cost.

Help Raising Special Kids Make a Difference

Mother's Day Photo Gift Opportunity

For this Mother's Day, have your family or children photographed by an artist who has a unique gift for creating images of children with special needs.  A photograph of the family might seem to be a simple task, but for many parents it's a struggle to achieve a quality photo illustration of their family. After coordinating schedules, transportation, outfits, and cooperative moods for all family members, an understanding photographer and the right environment are needed.

All in the Family Photography will offer families a full day of portrait creation at the Disability Empowerment Center.

The photographer, Jeff Lang, has a daughter with special needs and extensive experience in photography for individuals with disabilities, in a relaxed, no-pressure atmosphere that produces genuine smiles and happy families.

Raising Special Kids is the beneficiary of this event, so in addition to a family photograph, you are also helping families of children with disabilities. Call today for your appointment.
