State Performance Plan
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 required all states to develop a State Performance Plan describing how the state will implement the requirements and improve results for students with disabilities. The state plan covers six years 2005-2010. The plan includes state targets and a description of improvement activities to ensure compliance.
Annual Performance Report
In addition to the State Performance Plan, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 requires all states to develop and submit an Annual Performance Report describing the state's progress in meeting the targets established in the state plan.

Medicaid and Children with Special Health Care Needs
Georgetown's Center for Children and Families released a report on the importance of Medicaid for children with special health care needs. Family To Family Health Information Centers (including Raising Special Kids) were asked to assist in a research study intended to assess the current insurance status of families who have children with special health care needs and how health care reform might impact that status. The report can be found at the following link:

12 conditions added to Social Security Compassionate Allowances program
Compassionate Allowances are a way to quickly identify diseases and other medical conditions that, by definition, meet Social Security's standards for disability benefits. These conditions primarily include certain cancers, adult brain disorders, and a number of rare disorders that affect children. Beginning in August, Social Security is eliminating this part of the application process for people who have a condition on the list. |
