New York Museums
New York City has close to 100 museums - 60 in Manhattan alone. How does a visitor decide which museums to visit? The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the largest museum in the Western Hemisphere, might be the most famous, but don't overlook some of the lesser-known museums. The unique collections and smaller crowds make these sites worth checking out.
New York University's fine arts gallery which hosts original and traveling exhibitions. Past exhibitions include Diane Arbus, Police Pictures, Park Avenue Cubists, Iranian Art, and The Downtown Show.
A museum dedicated to Jewish culture showing works of artists such as Marc Chagall, Andy Warhol, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, along with archeological artifacts and ceremonial objects.
Housed in the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, this museum explores the history and culture of Native people of the Americas from earliest times to the present.
Neue Gallerie
A museum of German and Austrian art featuring the work of artists and designer such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Emil Nolde, Josef Hoffmann, and Marcel Breuer.
A museum celebrating the past, present and future of New York City, including permanent collections of decorative arts, vintage toys and theatre memorabilia.
The Fashion Institute of Technology's museum that collects, conserves and exhibits textiles, clothing and accessories. |
