U.S. News & World Report has just issued its 2012-2013 survey of hospitals. UTMC is listed as having 8 high-performing adult specialties, an increase of one over last year. Mercy St. Vincent also has 8 high-performing adult specialties, an increase of two over last year. Toledo Hospital has 5, the same as last year.

Based on the high-performing adult specialties, UTMC and Mercy St. Vincent are both ranked #18 in Ohio out of 226 hospitals in Ohio. Toledo Hospital is ranked #25. The three hospitals are also ranked as the top performing out of 15 hospitals in the Toledo metro area.

The 8 ranked specialties at UTMC are Geriatrics, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Orthopedics, Urology, and Ear, Nose and Throat.

Cancer, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Cardiology and Heart Surgery, and Gynecology at UTMC are unranked.

Last year UTMC was ranked #1 in the Toledo area based on 7 ranked specialties. Mercy St. Vincent was #2 based on 6 ranked specialties.

The patient satisfaction data for UTMC remains unchanged. The satisfaction data is compiled by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services using a standard questionnaire for all participating hospitals. Table I below shows results for seven Toledo area hospitals, the Ohio average, and the national average. Patient dissatisfaction (Patient would NOT recommend hospital to family, friends) remains at 3 times the state and national levels.
