UT Parking Blunders
Mary Jane Erard, Executive Director
The UT parking system is still not functioning. There are continuing problems with the system. We are receiving complaints from faculty, staff, and students. The following is one email recently sent to the UT-AAUP and is published with the author's permission.
I'm not sure if any other faculty members have had this happen to them, but I just received an e-mail telling me that I have received a parking ticket for parking in a faculty/staff (A) lot. I have a valid A parking permit that is registered properly. When I logon to "MyUT" and then "MyParking," where you purchase permits, everything is in order with the vehicle and permit that they claim was parked illegally. The e-mail even included a picture of the back of my car and shows that it is parked between the two yellow lines for faculty/staff parking.
I filed an appeal and I don't plan to pay the fine. However, it concerns me that this is the first time in seven years that I have received a parking ticket, which indicates to me a failure in their new parking system.
In addition to this complaint, others including students and staff have received parking tickets although they were legally parked on campus. The new parking system has been and remains flawed. If you have a complaint, please contact David O. Dabney.
