Faculty Letter to Dabney

Donald K. Wedding, UT-AAUP Executive Board

Faculty are continuing to report problems with the Summer payroll. One faculty has reported being paid in full for a lecture course and only in part for a DL course. Other faculty have reported being paid in part for both lecture and DL courses. Several have reported incorrect 403b and other deductions.

A letter to CFO and VP David Dabney from Professor Mary Ellen Edwards is presented below with her permission.

 Dear VP Dabney,

It is unacceptable that you  as the person in authority have changed the process of summer pay for faculty with absolutely no notice to anyone.  Because of this  totally unexpected change I had to scramble to borrow money to pay for my father's funeral expenses.

Also please be advised that you deducted a full amount from my pay for my Ohio Deferred Compensation 403b plan contributions in this May 20th summer pay period.  I had set up my contributions to be divided based on my 9 month faculty salary only and now I will go over the federal limit for these contributions unless this situation is corrected.    There have been no problems with this process for the past 13 years I have worked summers.  Please provide me with  information on the process you have put in place to correct errors caused by your newly changed procedures so I can get this corrected.
