Representatives of the three staff and faculty unions at The University of Toledo will hold a press conference on Tuesday May 17th at 11am to protest against the job cuts at the University. The press conference will be held at Libbey Hall on the Main Campus at The University of Toledo.
The three unions are The University of Toledo Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (UT-AAUP), American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 2415, and the Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 4319.
Employees at The University of Toledo are sick and tired of hearing of management bonuses accompanying employee layoffs. They are tired of feeling scared about their job security while management remains unaccountable for lavish expenses. They call for an independent audit of the books at The University of Toledo, because they fear that the current administration is neither transparent nor accountable.
This lack of accountability is one of the reasons that approximately 400 faculty, staff and students unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in the University President, Dr. Lloyd Jacobs, at a rally on March 21. The other reason is Dr. Jacobs' public endorsement of Senate Bill 5. All three unions, and others associated with the AFL-CIO in Toledo, have worked tirelessly to get a referendum on this issue in November. Over 2000 people at the University have signed the petitions for this to occur - another indication of the widening gap between an out-of-touch administration and its workforce.
