Earlier Today: Visitors to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus Turned Away http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/15961 Visitors to the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus are now being turned away, as thousands of union protesters have converged upon the city to oppose Senate Bill 5, a bill that would take collective bargaining rights away from many public employees in the state.
While the building is not filled to capacity, a Statehouse spokesperson said that the Rotundra and Atrium have reached capacity. Thus, additional visitors are being redirected to an off-site theater were a committee hearing on the bill will be simulcast beginning at 4pm...

Senate Bill 5 threatens the livelihood and working conditions of many state and local public workers.
All state workers, including higher-education employees, would lose their right to collective bargaining. In other words, the contracts between unions and employers would cease to exist; people's rights to healthcare, benefits, and other entitlements would all be threatened.
For many workers, including local workers, the right to binding arbitration is removed. Unions go to arbitration rarely, because it can be costly - and they usually do it when management is adopting a closed-minded, confrontationist attitude and will not budge an inch about an issue that adversely affects employees. Under the proposals, management's actions will not be assessed by any independent body; management gets all the rights, workers and their representatives have none...
