Workload
Tenured/Tenure Track Unit ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Based on reports over the last four days direct to the UT-AAUP, many faculty particularly in A&S are having signed workload agreements bounced by the dean even though these have been agreed to by the faculty and the chair. AAUP Bargaining Unit TT&T Members are directed to Article 10.3.2.5, which reads: 10.3.2.5 If the member is dissatisfied with his or her workload, the member shall seek to resolve the matter with the Department Chairperson. If the member and the Chairperson cannot agree or the Dean does not approve of what they have worked out, the member, the Chairperson and the Dean shall meet to resolve their differences. If this meeting is unsuccessful, the Provost shall assign a fair and equitable load. The member can grieve the workload imposed by the Provost. A grievance under this section shall be expedited to the external arbitration step of the grievance procedure. Members are advised to request a meeting with the dean per the above in any case where a workload agreement with the chair can not be worked out or where the dean has not approved the workload agreement. My guess is that a number of you are going to be filling out the dean's calendar especially in A&S. If anyone wants assistance before the meeting, contact Mary Jane Erard ut-aaup@mindspring.com or me at donwedding@toast.net
Sincerely, Donald K. Wedding Grievance Chair, UT-AAUP
