Enroll Now -- ProTrack 2010-11 Speaker Development Program Starts September 24, 2010
Ask experienced speakers how long it took them to build a viable speaking practice, and most will tell you at least 3-5 years.
But NSA Virginia's ProTrack Program is here to help you accelerate this process dramatically by:
- Guiding you through a step-by-step process to find and fine-tune your unique message, practice and polish your delivery, and build a solid business platform.
- Bringing you the most relevant information in building-block form from experts in the field who have "been there and done that."
- Accelerating the learning process with interaction, practice, feedback, and a highly active support system.
Testimonial From a Recent ProTrack Graduate: June 29, 2010 Thanks Dorothy!
I have been following up on your encouragement to write articles. I wrote a sample article (inspired by the "idol" speech material) and got hired to write part time for a local enewspaper on my signature topic, which I would not be pursuing without ProTrack! You could say ProTrack got me on track. I was wandering in the freight yard before my year in ProTrack.
Thanks! Pam

From Our New Chapter President. . .
...Welcome, Cathy Lewis!
Dear Friends,
Thirteen of us have just returned from NSA's national convention in Orlando.
I can't recall a year where NSA Virginia made such a powerful impact:
Hayley Foster did a magnificent job of chairing the Youth Convention and made it one of the most meaningful yet. · Sandy Dumont presented in the "20/20 Lightening Talks: the "Steeplechase of Speaking" - an exciting event in which each speaker had 6 minutes to make his/her presentation. All their PowerPointŪ slides were set to advance automatically every 6 seconds - ready or not. Sandy also had a booth at the conference where dozens of people got a mini-makeover. · Dorothy Erlanger was a presenter for "Meet the Pros." She shared her expertise in working internationally based on her decades of work all over the world. · Kristin Arnold, formerly President of NSA Virginia, was inducted as the new President of the National Speakers Association. Our chapter made among the most generous contributions to the Professional Speakers Benefit Fund, which supports professional speakers who have fallen on very hard times. It was a proud time to be part of NSA Virginia.
If you have never been to an NSA Convention, you are missing something special: extraordinary inspiration, state-of-the-art tools, cutting-edge techniques, life-changing networking and friendships.
The NSA 2011 Convention is July 30-August 2 in Anaheim, California. I hope you will make plans now to attend with your NSA Virginia colleagues. It will transform the way you deliver your message to a world that needs it. If you need additional inspiration, head over to the NSA Virginia Facebook page, join up and check out the great pictures you'll find there of NSA Convention 2010. Please be sure to join us August 20 in Richmond when we welcome NSA President Kristin Arnold back to the Commonwealth. Why not register now while you're thinking about it at www.nsavirginia.org?
To Your Success, Cathy

2010 NSA VIRGINIA Idol Competition
By Liz Garrett
The "NSA Virginia Idol Competition," which took place on the afternoon of June 18, 2010, was the capstone event of NSA Virginia's ProTrack Speaker Development Program. ProTrackers worked since September 2009 to develop and hone a six-minute speech, with generous help along the way from mentors and Protrack "professors", to deliver to peers and colleaguesat this competition. Big prizes were an added incentive.
"Graduating" ProTrack speakers included Tanya Blowe, Jewell Brown, Shirley T. Burke and
Dave Prestia. Others were: Barb Dodd sharing, "Wrecking an Airplane: Life Lessons from the Author of Lexus to Layaway;" Liz Garrett presenting, "Claim Your True Power;" Mindy Godding giving us, "A Glimpse of Chronic Disorganization;" Kittygayle McMoon deliveringred, "The Okra Story;" Adam Queen declaring, "Every Interaction an Opportunity," and Pam Rambo warning, "Don't Let Your Child Drive ALemon...Or Graduate From One!"
Each presenter wowed the audience with individual style and power that, by their own assessment, was but a faint promise at the beginning of the ProTrack program. Speakers received encouragement and feedback from a panel of judges that included Ron Culberson, MSW, CSP, as our "Simon," and Christine Walters and Susie Galvez, who battled it out with a funk-off to determine who was our "Ellen." NSA members in attendance voted for their favorites by secret ballot. Votes were tallied, in a PricewaterhouseCoopers sort of way, by Chris Thomas, CPA, an independent accountant. And the winners and prizes were... 1st Place: Mindy Godding- NSA National Convention full registration + $300 toward expenses 2nd Place: Pam Rambo - Series of coaching sessions with Smokie Sizemore 3rd Place: Adam Queen - Long weekend at The Lake House Writer's Retreat by Charlyne Meinhard 4th Place: Jewell Brown - 30-day Speaker Liftoff program with David Newman renowned NSA coach 5th Place: Kittygayle McMoon - Ron Culberson master of comedy, will take a complete keynote and do a comedy punchup. Congratulations to ALL ProTrackers and proud (but exhausted) Dean Dorothy Erlanger!
