A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

This month we are honored to have Glenna Salsbury as our workshop presenter. She is the recipient of NSA's most cherished award, the Cavett Award. This honor is bestowed to only one person each year, and it is presented to the member whose accomplishments over the years have reflected outstanding credit, respect, honor and admiration in NSA and the speaking profession. She has also earned NSA's other coveted designations, CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), and the highly-coveted CPAE, awarded to speakers each year by their peers.
Glenna has a two-year waiting list to speak to NSA Chapters, so don't miss this chance of a lifetime to hear Glenna and find out how to make your story compelling and spell-binding

It is acknowledged today that your audience is more likely to remember your message when it is related in a story. Authors also know that stories enable readers to retain information much more effectively than bullet points.
Glenna Salsbury is a master when it comes to helping others develop and perfect their stories. Her specialty is helping you find your signature story - the one that sets you apart from other speakers in your chosen field. Other "story experts" abound, but Glenna has a special gift for knowing how to make your story spellbinding as well as succinct. This workshop will also help you discover unique methods for perfecting pace and rhythm. Don't miss this unique opportunity to work with a real master and "story guru."

THE FALL MARKETPLACE
Volunteer Opportunity: "staging" more business for NSA-VA members
NSA Virginia has begun a new project to (1) elevate the visibility of NSA-VA and (2) generate leads for our members. Specifically, we will be participating in the "Fall Marketplace" of the Virginia Society of Association Executives (VSAE) on October 2nd at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. This event is billed as the "premier trade show reaching Virginia's meeting planners," and attendance at the 2007 event was close to 300 registrants.
If you would like to join the subcommittee on this event, please let Tom Davidson (Tom@DavidsonLeadership.com) know of your interest as soon as possible so the selected planning team can turn this idea into a very exciting reality.
Thank you for your interest and support.

NSA Members Use Talents To Give Back To the Community
2008 is another year that United Way of Greater Richmond and Petersburg is benefiting from the talents of NSA members and frequent attendees. Coaches Smokie Sizemore, Tom Davidson, Ann Deaton, and John Testement have worked for several years with up-and-coming corporate leaders to provide them with expert coaching during their 15 weeks in the United Way's Emerging Leader Program. Plans for 2008 include expanded roles for the coaches as the Emerging Leaders get valuable professional development while they are leading the fund-raising campaign for United Way.
The recruitment for Emerging Leaders is beginning earlier than usual in 2008, with the completion of a 9-minute DVD conceived and coordinated by Charlyne Meinhard, another NSA member. This promotional piece highlights the value that participants get from serving as an Emerging Leader. Charlyne interviewed a cross-section of Emerging Leaders, their company CEOs, and ELP Coaches and Trainers. Charlyne says, "I was heartened to see that the training we designed for the Emerging Leaders Program in 2005 was working so well. It was a natural progression to work on marketing the advantages of the program to local businesses. Everyone we interviewed was so enthusiastic and eloquent, it was hard to edit down the program to less than 10 minutes!"
