Coming February 8th - Elizabeth Berry
On February 8th, 2008, the NSA meeting will feature Dr. Elizabeth Berry speaking about the Kolbe System, a unique set of instruments that give insight into our natural talents and has wide application to your professional and personal lives. The Kolbe A™ index is an instrument that measures conation or a person's inherent talent or natural way of doing things and predicts what a person will or will not do, given the freedom to act. Whereas intelligence tests measure I.Q. and personality tests measure values and preferences, the Kolbe index measures the conative, the way people act while trying to achieve goals. It is truly a powerful and innovative instrument that will enrich your understanding of yourself and your audiences.
Here's Dr. Pat Raymond's report on her experience.
"The contents of the junk bag lay scattered on the table. Three sets of eyes darted around the debris, looking for order, perhaps inspiration, for the game they were to develop and sell. The clock ticked down from three minutes.
We watched with amazement as the test subjects performed just as we'd been briefed they would. William started touching everything, making tidy piles of the disorder. Elizabeth went into full shutdown mode, arms crossed, inattentive. Sandy (yes, our Sandy) leapt in, assembling a bizarre shoots and ladders game involving a make-shift blow gun, marbles, and bits of string.
We were in our School of Performance class at the 2nd Annual NSA University in Tucson, and we were learning what our Kolbe A index (www.Kolbe.com) revealed of our dominant connative traits, that is, our preferred way to get things done. Three class members, selected as they had very strong traits for one of the four connative types, had left the room as Dr. Elizabeth Berry pre-briefed us on how these three very different qualities would handle the group stress test. A frank nay-sayer, I sat enthralled as these free-willed NSAers struggled through the challenge exactly as their testing had suggested.
What'd we learn? Beyond how we connate (a major earth-shifter for me; I'm still chewing on lessons there for life), I discovered that I have clear hardwired preferences for how I handle projects and life stressors alike. That my staff needs the complimentary connative traits that would gag me with spoons. This rocked " |
